Rotosound Swing Bass 66. Roundwound stainless heaven.

indeed. On my side v7 2nd gen fretless and my ibby 2600 premium—- that is my string. In fact I almost dumped the ibby until I tried the rotos. Boom the ibby woke up.

ironically, on my fender jazz with Duncan bass line pups GHS Boomers are the bomb. The rotos don’t quite fit the sound needs for that bass.

Depends on the bass.
Maple fretboard p bass gets Rotosound swing bass for Entwistle sound. Another maple fretboard 50’s P has Chromes. Had Chromes on other basses weren’t good.
Geddy has Rotosounds and 64 AVRI Jazz has Rotosound flats. 60’s P has La Bella flats.
One acoustic has GHS Pressurewounds and fretless acoustic has D’Addario tapes.
Short scale pj has TI flats. The TI short scale sets are great.
Fretless Jazz has Rotosound flats. Tried other flats and rounds on that and those were the best. May try GHS brute flats
Have DR Hi beams on a 90’s Jazz and Fat beams on P bass with EMG GZR’s which replaced Black Beauties. Almost sound the same without the feeling of the black coating. Some basses haven’t found their perfect string yet.
Had a Rickenbacker with TI flats which were perfect for Beatles/Wings tones.
Thunderbird bass is one where I can’t find perfect string and Peavey T 40

my 5's get a .150 Kalium on the B string and EB's on the other 4 strings.

Thunderbird bass is one where I can’t find perfect string and Peavey T 40

For T-40 I use Daddario XL’s. I let the tone controls of the T-40 do the work as I felt like other branded strings I’ve tried colored the T-40 a lot. The XL’s are great vanilla sounding strings on a T-40 IME.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention Rotos on a Thunderbird. That’s the Entwistle combo!

My perfect string set is a set of D'Addario ProSteels. As close to a perfect string as I've used, and I've tried them a ton of strings. Consistent, string to string, pack to pack. They die evenly, none of that E strings dying before G strings. And the best value for pro level strings on the market. By the way, D'Adarrio did not stop making SloWound strings. Not exactly.



SloWounds were made by winding a string at tension, and controlling the speed at which the windings were applied. This process revolutionized D'addario's entire manufacturing procedure. So much so, they decided to make ALL their strings this way. Nickel Plated SloWounds became redundant, as they started making the XL series with the same process. Today, D'Addario XL Nickel Plated Steel series are, essentially, SloWounds.

I remember reading that as well when they discontinued Slo-wounds.


However, something changed in the process, as Slo-wounds were perfect out of the box for me but XLs take awhile to settle in and not be high-mids ganky.

Tried Rotosounds on a T 40 but was expecting more brightness. Didn’t like D’Addarios on it.
I will try the Rotosounds on the Thunderbird.
D’Addarios are a vanilla middle of the road string which are good for 5 string basses

Keep saying, if you like Rounds; you need to try the 24 Kt Gold Optima Uniques. Hex core, they feel slick to the touch, sound great, and last. Might be a little pricey but well worth it. It took me years to break down and try a set. Best decision I've ever made.
