The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

Subsitute out. A violin for the second guitar and you have our church at full strength. 6 microphones on the drums?

At Lighthouse we use an 12 channel board for the drums that the drummer controls his mix and he gets 1 line out. We tweak him during sound check. Sound booth also has access to his headphones if the need arises.

Not a Christmas present per se, but after selling my sunburst Squier Vintage Modified Precision V to a friend, I found another.

This one is white/tort/maple, and after installing a set of Hipshot Ultralites, it only weighs 8lb 6oz. Amazing for a 5-string with a full-sized body. It makes a perfect foil for my ABZ.

If money were no object, it would be a Dingwall Super P5, but I can't justify a second boutique bass, given my stage in life and family responsibilities.

It is pretty normal for me to be off for 3 weeks. I play about once a month in a rotation. I played the first Sunday of November and then not again until last week but I also sing in the choir which was working overtime those weeks to prepare for the Christmas outreach concert so it was nice to be free from the bass guitar duties actually. On the other hand with everyone else taking their late summer vacations I ended up playing three Sundays last September. If you have regular breaks from bass duties I would imagine your church has other ministry opportunities that will fill your time. Maybe the sound team could use a musician's viewpoint during weeks you are not scheduled to play....

Any musical gear for Christmas? I recieved a practice stool and a new stomp box tuner which was badly needed.

I asked for vouchers for Thomann.de (a European online music superstore) and put them, along with some of my own money, to get some bits and pieces: acoustic and electric guitar strings, new power supply for my B3 (it shipped with a non-standard and underrated one, so I got the seller to give me a partial refund), a gig bag for the B3, a new gig bag for my electric guitar, a mandolin/guitar stand and a big bag of picks.

Hey TB people. After a 3 week hiatus I'm going to return to the praise and worship team. I don't know why but it feels like it's been longer D: anyone else experience this?

My usual situation is playing most weeks but in the summer I think I had six weeks off due to a 2-week holiday then a series of special services (kids, youth, guest band etc). And yes, it felt like a lifetime!

While not a Christmas present as it was ordered back in May, my glorious Dingwall Super P5 arrived on the 23rd and it was therefore Christmas to me!

Zoomie, I second the Presonus although they can do some nasty things like kill your monitor mix with a bad button push. That said, the ability to change eq settings and effects for monitors is really cool since it doesn't affect FOH. I share with the drummer which is fine. We use wedges mostly so a spot on mix is not as important. Sound people have to be interested to provide a good iem mix though.

Our board will have to stay for now.

The worship team will get together today after service and discuss options.

I will not covet, but those two P5s are pushing me to the edge. Both beautiful in their own way. My preferred colour scheme for a P or J would be oly white/tort.

I wanted the Baltic amber PG as it matches the PG on my Super J. The Baltic is a little different without travelling too far from tradition.

Really looking forward to taking her for a spin tomorrow.

You've got to love a good P. Pricing is similar as well, except for the decimal point. Zoomie's was about $3K, mine was $300...

Before the usual Squier vs XXX arguments start, let me just say that while the Squier sounds amazingly good for such a cheap instrument and I really enjoy playing it, the quality is NOT at the same level as the real thing.

It needed a $100 tuner upgrade to reduce a dead spot and improve tuning stability, and the Asian maple neck is like butter compared to the Canadian rock maple that North American luthiers use.

I'm going to give the Squire Strat a rest and bring my Ibby for bass this Sunday. No practice, so I have no idea what we'll be playing. Last time our bass player was gone I didn't remember and just had the strat, so the keys played heavy left hand.

As for Christmas, I got some chromes for my strat. I'll be recording my steels before switching them out to compare the tone to see which I prefer. D'Addario also make a nickel-plated set that supposedly has a more vintage sound. I'll be trying those next. Also got a 'Bass your life on Christ' T-shirt. And a 5-album CD set of Gary Moore. It was a good Christmas.

Wow! Nice stuff out there! I'm pretty happy with what I have at the moment. I am planning on stripping the electronics out of an old Ibanez musician and installing a Bart setup. Way things are going, that will be a selfie for Christmas next though. 60+ hour weeks are looming as construction is booming in nor cal.
