The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

P Bass sounds awesome. Quite literally, ha! I like the simplicity. I am displeased with the sound of my J bass and I am not sure if it is an issue of quality or just type. One thing I LOVE about the Jazz is the thin neck. Total Godsend for people with small hands. Switching to a precision gives me lovely sound but that thick neck is not my favorite...which is one reason I like that Duff McKagan Bass.

I'm on a Precision kick myself. If you go into a Guitar Center, see if they have this one: ImageUploadedByTalkBass1391926997.751368.jpg

I am seriously in love with that bass. The Fender USA Nitro Satin Series Precision. It looks great, plays great, sounds great, is lightweight, and it has a slim neck. Maybe not quite Jazz thin, but not as thick as typical P necks.

Hey, one question about tuning. I want a B string so the obvious choice would be to buy a 5s but...I have tiny hands. Would a 4s BEAD tuning be advisable? Would that mess with the neck/truss rod? Would I have to change the intonation?

As long as you take it to a luthier who knows what they're doing, it shouldn't be a problem. They'd need to file wider slots on the nut and adjust the bridge and truss rod, but it's easily doable. I'm not sure who, but a couple of guys around here have modded their fours to do just that.

I've been looking at semi hollow body basses particularly the ibanez agb200. Anyone here use this type of bass in a full band setting? Hillsong, Matt Redman type songs?

I've played a few different models, but only in guitar stores. I've never been able to get a great, versatile tone out of them. Some are kind of woody and thumpy, maybe good for acoustic sets, but I don't know how well they'd sit with a full band. I know Hillsong's bassist uses, or at least has used, a P-bass, and I'll go out on a limb and guess that Redman's uses a Fender of some sort, so you can't go wrong with one of those.

ShowLow, thanks for the encouragement on playing at GC. I guess I know Lincoln Brewster's Everlasting God by heart and that's a fun one to play. Alright, anxiety gone about that.

Babbling...sorry.

I used to run my old Fender MIJ Fretless tuned BEAD for quite a while and had no issues with the nut.

Isn't the Hoppus Bass a jazz neck and body with a P pickup?

We have gone into basses and line-ups of musicians.

What about your church (churches?).

My church is in a village in rural Buckinghamshire.

My church is in a large town in probably-as-urban-as-the-area-gets Buckinghamshire. :D

I've been here since 1997 - the current senior pastor and associate were around then, in different roles.

We were filling our old hall despite having three morning services, so we built a new auditorium as an extension. We opened that in 2010 and have two morning services, but we're adding a third next month to cope with the growth. We're regularly topping 1,000 people in total on a Sunday, which includes around 200 kids. It's a very diverse church, with a real mix of backgrounds. Lots of countries represented other than the UK, particularly Nigeria and Ghana.

We also have a relaxed Sunday evening meeting every other month or so in our foyer/coffee shop area, with video teaching and acoustic worship. That's fairly new (over the last year or so) but we've been getting around 70 people for the current series.

That's all that I can type right now, as I need to go and set up!

This Godin A5 has an upright, thumpy, deep sound that I can't resist. I've been using it for songs that lend themselves to a fretless tone, but would work well for pretty well all others. Run it through an SVT w/410, and it totally fills, not booms in a full band setting.

We are a Methodist congregation celebrating our Jubilee year (50th anniversary) in Southwest Missouri in a fair sized town - a few hundred thousand souls in the greater 'metropolitan' area.

We have traditional services in the 'new' sanctuary, but our largest service is the 'contemporary' service in the gym. My wife works for Children's ministries and leads a children's service in the old sanctuary on Sunday mornings. We have a lot of fun singing and dancing with the kids.

We just 'adopted' an older downtown church as our second campus. There are a couple of Methodist churches in close proximity downtown - one had Northern sympathies and the other Southern.

Our pastors are relatively new to the congregation. They have their warts but a pretty good bunch - the grey haired, fatherly senior pastor, the formidable 40 something Korean lady associate and the young hipster techno-geek who is currently serving downtown. We also have a non pastoral COO who handles administrative functions and manages the staff.

I converted my Ibanez P bass to BEAD & all I had to do was to adjust the intonation slightly.

I am at a Foursquare church in a very affluent suburb near the foothills of Los Angeles' San Gabriel Valley. Because of immigration and money coming in from rich Chinese the children of the original church members have been forced out of the local community. However after the 1994 Northridge earthquake an African Christian Fellowship had lost their meeting place and since we already had a few Nigerian members we gained a large influx of other Nigerians who now make up the significant percentage of the church elders and makes us unique to our part of the world.

A few years ago our supervisor found a Chinese Associate Pastor and now we are beginning to again draw from the local community. As far as I can tell we are the only muti ethnic Pentecostal in the immediate area so we have a market niche. In the past an Armenian and a Spanish language churches have been planted by us. But just looking at the local demographics I can't see a Chinese church being planted as they are the future were we sit.

Hey guys. It's been a long time since I posted on here. I took a step down off stage to deal with some personal issues. Some sin I needed to work on. After about 8 or 9 months I'm back. I'm about to go out and friggin rock the low end in about 30 minutes. God bless you everyone.

Welcome back not just to playing again, but most importantly, back in fellowship with Him!

YEA! (for both parts!)

I spent the weekend with our high school youth group at a winter retreat. The Word of God was spoken boldly.

They had a band, the bassist was rocking a 5 string Schecter Diamond series running direct through a SansAmp bass driver.

I talked to him a bit. It was his first time playing with the drummer and guitarist but they locked in and sounded great.

Also, Scott's Bass Lessons online is offering a 60% discount on an annual insider membership today so I joined up to get some solid stuff to practice.

10,000 reasons- little more rock feel
All I Am
None But Jesus
Break Every Chain
Rythms of Grace - 6/8 so a fun one to play
Holy Spirit.

Feeling blessed as a couple of songs were simple enough that I could focus on worship instead of my surroundings and bass.

Have a blessed week eveybody!
