the quality of r.cocco bass strings?

I'm very, very happy with nickel-wound R. Cooco's on a 34" 5-string - just put a replacement set on my 5, and am happy, happy, happy. A bit on the mellow side, which is great for what I do, but there is no lack of punch, and the zing is there if I dial it in via EQ. I also like the feel - the surface is surprisingly easy for a roundwound that is not ground, pressured, whatever, and the tension is just about ideal for me, although this is something on which folks can and do differ, and my own bias is to favor lower-tension sets.

Just put a nickel medium set on my 35" scale 5. Tension is slightly higher than on previous brands of nickel sets, but still easy on the fingers. Sold on the mellow tone, "distinct" and "edgy" when not using my Sansamp BDDI. Always used to use the BDDI. Last gig I actually turned it off and went straight for a few songs. Just sounded so nice. Sound very nice thru the LH500 tube pre, but a hair bright (if nickel's can ever said to be bright) thru my Seymour Duncan Bass 400 and Hartke HyDrive cabs. Using GK neo cabs, brightness is not there (horns off), just gorgeous mellow-ness. I'm trying the light gauge nickel (40-60-80-100-120) set next time... maybe next summer. Scale of 1 -10: 9 (always searching for that perfect '10').

Just had a set of nickels, and I didn't found them muted up top compared to other nickels at all. Nice feeling and sounding strings, however the E-string was a bit dead sounding. I hate that, so I don't think I will buy more sets. I have a set of R.Cocco ss as well, and will give them a go.

I tried some rounds recently. Really loved `em - punchy, percussive lows, great tension & feel. My only complaint: the shortest - lived strings ever. It didn`t take any time at all for the finger funk to deaden `em. I boiled `em, and started being mindful to wash my hands, etc. - they lasted a while longer, but they`re pretty dead again now.

I just changed from using Labelle Slappers to R.Cocco nickels on my Fender VB 5 string and what a difference. I loved the tension on the slappers and the brightness that is possible as a nickel plated string.

Well, the R.Cocco nickels have a strong punch and loads of grit. When you dig in, the sound of strings the more grit you receive (similar to GHS Boomers). I thought that the tension on the slappers was as good as it could get, but the R.Cocco nickels have an even lower tension.

The one issue that I had to adjust to was the feel of the strings. Out of the box the strings appear a little sticky but, after a day or two of playing the stickiness seems to subside.

Recently strung up a set of R. Cocco nickel 4's. 45-100

Can't say enough good things about these strings. Tight lows, clear mids, and just the right amount of sparkle on the highs with flat EQ. Tension is slightly higher than on other brands of nickel sets, but silky smooth on the fingers. No silked ends though.

The nickels (45-100) are my #1 favorite.
Given how much tone and playability you get they are more than worthy their price IMHO. I´ve been on a sort of string hunt lately and found nothing that could surpass them. They sound superb and have no negatives to speak of. If it had not been for my local guitar stores manager who recommended them I´d probably never tried them. I am really glad I did as I found "home".

Was trying to decide on a new pair of strings and I think I will have to give the R Cocco light nickel a try.

Thanks for all the helpful feedback about them! I was wondering if they would be a good choice and it seems so.

Hmmm....now that I don't know. I read from another TB user a while back they were out of business but you could be right, I just saw that everyone quit selling them.

@SLaPiNFuNK would know for sure, and he has a bunch of them in his ebay store if anybody wants to stock up on remaining sets!

Hot dang, those are some good prices. I might snag a couple packs while I can. I tried these a few years ago (got them from BSO) and I really liked them. They were a little more money than the average string though so I went back to DR.

Thanks for reminding me, just got 2 of his guitar string sets.

Still have a set on my 4 string bass, first Strings I put on it after buying it used.

I am not as experienced with bass strings but they seem solid to me so I can't wait to check out the the guitar ones. I will have to buy another set of the bass strings while I can too.

I know this is an old thread....I used this brand on all my electric guitars and was very happy with them in the 90's.....the set I had on my Les Paul actually lasted for nearly a year before I finally broke a string on tour. I kid you not....they still sounded great but after the breakage I replaced the whole set (naturally!)... I miss this string brand. It seems they still have an active website....anybody know where I can get this brand today? I'd love to try a set of their bass strings, let alone get some more for my guitar. Thanks!
