Am I an *******? My mom's birthday was on Father’s Day and I told my boss I wanted to have the day off a month and a half in advance. I told him I’d be out of town several times. When I first mentioned it face to face he didn’t say anything so I assumed everything was alright, including text messages that went unanswered. A week before Mother’s Day when I reminded him that I would be out of town, he threw a fit and scheduled me to work. Went out of town and I tried explaining him the situation but he didn’t let me finish and hung up. I only worked there 1 day a week but I feel he was really unprofessional.

you've certainly come to the right thread to get sympathy for all matters regarding mother. We have a resident specialist in Fat Freddy, who can counsel you as soon as he returns.
Remember, M is for the many things she gave us

Text messages will be easily challenged in any sort of workplace tribunal or litigation; text messages can be mis-sent or undelivered and there is no auditable log of sending and receipt. Always do things in writing, which means either by memo with copies to the person responsible for administering time off, pay etc. or an email through the corporate email server with the appropriate copies. Email will automagically generate logs of sending, delivery and reading.
