The Real Book... for rock, and more condensed?

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right forum section, but...

I often find myself at a jam session and someone suggests a song, and I just want the roots to at least be able to jam along.

Does anyone know of an online resource for just finding *just* the chords/root notes for songs? But massively condensed.

e.g. Verse: C G A F, Chorus: X X X, etc.

ie, not pages of tab, multiplied by several pages from Google.

And/or, what's your quickest approach to learning a new song when you're at a jam and someone suggests a song?

Google to the rescue. Search words - chords, name of the song.

That will get you fake chord sheet music on just about everything you might be needing.

Then copy to paper what you want, I have not seen what you want.

At a jam session assume a I-IV-V or the 12 bar blues progression, or watch the rhythm guitar's fretting hand and play what he does.

Just a massive pain going through several versions of tabs to find the right one, etc. when you need to get basic grasp in literally 30 seconds.

Might make it a new project...

Why are you searching for tabs when all you want are the roots? If I just want the chords I search for "lyrics and chords" of the song, not tabs or notation. Just be prepared to have glaring errors. Wrong key or wrong chords.

oh no, I'm never looking for tabs in this situation, always chords, but they sometimes crop up too.

Like you say, usually wrong keys, anyway no matter what you find.

I'm now heading down the road of understanding "common" chord progressions, something I've not spent too much time on of late, so this will prob sort me out on these mega quick jam sessions.

that's the way ya do it.

Google can call up Fake chord on just about any song you may want. It'll be the bare bones and you take it from there.

The key can be anything the vocalist wants so it may not be in the key you expected -- change it to the key you want.

The chord progression shown is also bare bone - the finished product is left up to you.
