That's what I was thinking. Reminded me of Billy Sheehan saying he used stove bolts to permanently attach the strap to his old P-bass.

embarrased to admit--in the 70's, after my new 74 P took one dive too many, I installed hook-eyes on the bass and dog leash snaps on the strap. never took another fall and it's like that to this day! That and a replaced pg are the only non-stock parts on it. I never play that bass anymore (don't like p necks or maple necks) but I'd never sell her 'cause she's my first!

Looks like the straplocks on that Turquoise 5L are the old style of Dunlop straplocks. I have a set on my Metro, but I prefer the newer Dunlop dual design straplocks that look more like a conventional strap button.

Straplocks are pretty important on a 'fish IMO, as a result of the short upper horn (can easily come off your strap due to the angle) and their relative fragility (wouldn't want my 'fish hitting the ground hard).

My apologies then: that doesn't appear to be the stock strap button.
After reviewing the pix more closely, both buttons do appear to be the same.

They seem much taller than stock buttons tho, are they some form of straplock or something?

No worries Chef. Those buttons were on the bass when I bought it years ago. They do appear to be old Dunlops. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll update the auction today.

Ha! That's cool. I had a Planet Waves strap that was somewhat stiff, but one day it popped off the strap button on the upper horn of my 5L. I managed to keep it from hitting the ground, but I went out and bought some Dunlops the next day. I now use a Comfort Strapp which I like a lot, but it would come off the button quick without the straplocks, I imagine.

The old and new design Dunlops work the same, though I personally prefer the look of the newer ones. YMMV.

LOL. I hear that but can never pull the trigger on parting with one of mine.

For some reason, it seems like 5-string Revs turn up for sale more often than their (I would assume more common) 4-string brethren, or at least more often than their numbers would warrant.

I'm pretty surprised that the 5's are bringing in this kind of money lately...before you could almost couldn't give one away. I remember one selling for like $470 on ebay not even a year ago. Makes it hard for me to drop $800+ on a 5 now...but that maple board looks good.

They moved all production overseas in 2004-5. When they moved, they stopped making basses, which weren't as popular as the guitars.

The best thing about Reverends is their unique sound, IMO. Love it or hate it, nothing else sounds quite like a 'fish.

Lack of demand (hard to believe reading this thread, I know.) They weren't selling enough basses to justify production costs.

Yeah I was curious because their headquarters is nearby in Michigan. I always like buying from a Michigan company if possible since we are so depressed. Hearing they make them overseas makes me want to stick to self built instruments.

I remember that and was stunned at the time. If I'd seen it, I would have bought it.

I bought my 5L for $650 almost two years ago and considered it a great deal even though it's not a great color (white w/gold PG). My BH5 cost me $1K a few months later. I have NO idea what it would fetch these days on the 'bay, and I'm not going to find out, either.
