Yeah. It's a beaut. I traded a Karl Hoyt bass for my Rev, and it was quite a price to pay. The Hoyt was a great bass, but it just didn't fit what I was doing.

I bought by blue 5L for $425 to my door, 'bout 2 years ago, on a day when no one else was lookin' I guess.
I balanced that out by paying $950 for my blackwood tho

I bought my first 5L 3 years ago for $650, then the PJ a month later for $600. $1k for the Lava 5L when that last batch came out.. Wish I had seen that last batch of 4's when they were offered.

I paid over $1,000 for my bugeye XL when I bought it new in 2000. I think base price for the XL was $799, plus the bugeye was an extra $100 or so, and the case wasn't included. Sold that bass for $525 on eBay about a year later.
My green/gold 5L with case was around $900 new, in 1999. Damn, that was a fine-lookin' bass. One too many strings for me.
My blue 4-string was $650 new in 1998. The white one was $625 on eBay in 2004 and the recently departed red one was $771 from eBay in 2006.

Just found the hang tag from my blue 'Fish. "Toxic Blue", they called it. Purchased November 2, 1998 from Palmetto Music in Greenville, South Carolina. They knocked $50 off the price because there was already discolored gunk on the sides and they couldn't scrub it off!

I bought my jj4 on ebay 6 or 7 years back for around $400, shortly there after got the 5L for $350 (best bass deal I've ever gotten) and bought the premium mahoganny topped 2-3 years back during the final run for something over $700--that averages out to something like $500 per fish!

I watched a minty dark blue 5L w/case go for $325, on ebay in '02.

The one I still kick myself over, was a Engine Turned (both sides) Houser for $625 BIN. The guy listed it twice....no bidders either auction.

I wonder what that ETA Houser would fetch on ebay these days? I'd bet it would go for a lot more than $625.

could be it--I know the 4 came from arizona and the 5 from "out west" as well. She's been working her way east ever since--now on the east coast--but up for sale again.

According to Reverend's serial number data, the total number of guitars and basses produced before moving offshore was just under 5000.

So I guess it depends on what the approximate ratio of guitars to basses was. If it was 4:1, then that would mean the total number of basses made was around 1000.

Does that sound right?

Of course, I could be wrong. I haven't the slightest clue what the ratio of guitars to basses might be. If it was higher (say 7 to 1), that would mean the number of basses made was much lower -- only 600 or so. That can't be right though. They show up for sale too often to be that few in number.

I'm still guessing around 1000. If the ratio of guitars to basses were lower than 4:1, I imagine they would have continued to make basses when they moved overseas. They said they stopped making basses because they weren't selling well. Even if they were selling 3 guitars for every bass, that's still a heckuva lot of basses.

Additionally:
I paid $900 for my BH5 with OHSC, new, from Mountain Music in KC.
They had several other new ones languiching there.
Byt the time I figgered I really wanted the Safety Orange PJ, it was gone.

I think I paid the record for a 'fish. I bought knifemaker's PJ (converts to JJ) for like $1100 in a moment of panic when I thought I'd never see another PJ for sale for a long time. But it does have both sets of pickups, two pickguards, and the original B/W case.

Could've saved a bundle if I hadn't foolishly kept trying to talk 4mal out of selling his. Chef's not the only one who wishes he'd bought that orange PJ.
