The Reverend Club (part 3)

I'm going to try to make a very long story somewhat short here.

As some of you may know, I don't really get a chance to gig because of my daughter's condition. However, I have sat in with a friend's band on numerous occasions, just playing a few songs here and there. He's going out of town for a while, and the band had already scheduled a gig, so they asked me to sub for him. He's also moving away in a few months, so they've been lobbying me to join up, though I probably can't make that kind of commitment.

Nevertheless, I've got a (for me) very rare gig opportunity coming up (first one in many years), and my first practice with the band tonight. I'm pretty stoked. I've been practicing all the songs on my Sadowskys, figuring that since the set list is really diverse, I ought to go with a Jazz (or PJ) type bass for maximum versatility in tone. Yesterday though, I received a Summit TD-100 preamp. I've heard over and over how great the Summit sounds with the Bergantino IP310, and so curiosity got the better of me and I snapped it up. My Sadowskys sounded pretty good through it (about as good as through my Brunetti, which has dual channels and an EQ section). I figured I'd take the Summit tonight, since my Brunetti is in a heavy rack while the Summit just fits into a gig bag.

Then right before I was going to go to bed, I remembered how people had just raved and raved about the Summit with a passive bass. So last night I thought I'd just break out my Reverend PJ and see what the deal was.

HOOOCHIE MAMA!!! What a freakin' tone. I just stood there playing with this insane grin on my face and ended up staying up wayyy too late and running through most of the songs again just because I was digging the tone so much and just couldn't stop playing.

The bottom line: I'm thinking that I'll be bringing a Reverend or two tonight, while the Sadowskys stay at home. :D

The last time I brought the PJ out to one of their gigs, a fellow TBer was there and described the tone as follows:

"that Rev was hot! Very thick and powerful. Maybe a little on the greasy side which just worked with the music."

He also said this: "As far as the PJ Reverend had some serious beedonkey donk going for it. It made that Aggie/NV610 just light up."

Gotta love the term "greasy." :D

Stop it man. Your giving me GAS!!!

I played a reverend at Tom's GTG through an Orange All Tube Stack (410+115) and that was about the best tone that I ever had. I had a nice big grin from that one, although I quickly put it down to avoid having to buy a Rev.

You... suck... :scowl:

Yeah, Trevor and that Fish of his through my Orange rig was definitely what pushed me over the edge. It's amazing how many people have told me that that was the most memorable tone of the evening. :cool:

So, all you fellow fish-rumblers, get ye'self an Orange rig!!! :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:
