Tony, can you do me a favor between fish flips? :hiding:

IIRC, 4mal told me that the pickups on the Orange PJ are Aeros, (Type 1) I believe. He said he liked them lots better than the stock pickups. Can you compare the tone on a stock PJ with the Orange one for me?

I guess what's bugging me is that I can't imagine that my PJ would sound better with replacement pickups, but I generally respect Mal's opinion (other than his decision to sell the Orange fish :p ), and I've always been curious about that as I never had the chance to A/B it side by side with a PJ with the stock pickups.

Personally I prefer the Stock Pups individually. The Rev P is unbeatable, and the J solo has just the Right Zing to it!

But TOGETHER, these upgraded pups are quite a combo! I find myself playing one all the way up, and rolling the other in, until i get a Touch of Brightness, or a Hint of BOOMINESS. It should be pretty easy to figure out which is which...

And in the mix, the Orange Roughy Cuts Through, Stands Out, but doesn't OVerWhelm!

I'll have pics of the Rum-Birdseye tomorrow. Did you know they had Skunk-Stripe necks in 2005?:eek:

I think I'll keep the pickups in mine stock.

BTW, the Red Snapper has arrived at a Fedex depot somewhere in Portland. I'm praying that they'll try to deliver it sometime before I have to take my daughter to therapy at 2. :hmm: I really want to take it out on Saturday night.

This Fish is WAY Sweeter than I was expecting! It is in XLNT condition, has the Obviously Desirable Rum-Birdseye finish, Maple Boards, Gold Pick Guard, and Black JJ Pickups. (XL would've been a NICE option...Not ruling it out either!)

Man, played Matt's bugeye PJ last night.... what an axe! I can't imagine anything sounding better for certain styles of rock and roll. And I can't believe how much balls that bridge J has...not thin at all, just powerful and burpy.

EDIT: Also, on rereading this post, I can't believe how weird the phrase "how much balls that bridge J has" sounds. Gramatically, I think I should have gone with "how many balls that J has" but that sounds even worse!
