I'm with ya Chef. I just would be too afraid of giving up what I know is a winner with my purple one just to give in to the temptation that is Lava swirl! I wouldn't do it unless I could compare the two side by side first. Ain't gonna happen this week, though!

I'm have the blackwood in a heartbeat if the shipping and customs to the UK didn't bump the price up so much... :-(
And anyway I've trying the restrain my GAS and wait for a BH.
BTW thanks for the suggestions about refurbishing the electrics in my fish. I have a diagram from Reverend and components on their way to me. Maybe even have it ready to gig at the weekend!

Well I got the cream/yellow Rumblefish today. After playing for a few hours I'm very happy with it. The tone is deep and punchy, and the neck is really nice. It is all I was hoping for.
I found Invalid Link Removed, and it turns out mine was made in 2004 (I confirmed that the chart applies to basses in an email to Reverend).

I just gotta say that it was all I could do not to jump on that Lava Swirl 5L that was on the 'bay recently. I noticed it even had the swirl on the back, whereas the back on my Swirl BH5 is plain old black.
I just couldn't see myself parting with my white 5L to make room for the new swirl. Old #8 just plays too doggone well.

And, thanks for the chart.. that's the first time I've seen it. Confirmed that my two remaining 'Fish are both from '98, but the red 'Fish, bass #90 which I just sold, is actually a '99.. the fourth instrument they made that year. Interesting..
Awesome color irjason! Welcome to the club indeed. I also enjoyed the serial number chart, which places my Blackfish as a 1999. Of course, that's when I bought it new...

Looks like my 5L (#8) is from early '99 and my swirly BH5 is from early '02. My PJ is a relative youngun from late '05.
It also just occurred to me that if we assume that for every bass made there were about 4 guitars made, that would put the total number of "fish in the sea" at less than a thousand. Does that sound right??? Maybe there were only 3 guitars made for every bass, which would still put the total number of basses at just over 1200 or so . . .
In any event, I consider myself pretty doggone lucky to be in possession of three of them.

Funny about that serial chart, that puts my bass as older than I thought. I bought it from Ryan at LDS and I guess I just don't remember the timeframe from when he told me he was having it built to when I ended up with it.

It is interesting to think about the number of Fish that are out there. It seems to me that the limited number gives these basses some real potential to be collectibles. I guess time will tell.

I emailed Reverend Customer Service; asking that they please post printable PDF of the owners manuals in the Rev archives section....
It took only about 20 minutes for Joe himself to email back and say "no problem, thanks for asking."
Now, I bet it takes longer than 20 minutes to get them posted; but that's great customer serivce, and shows they still care about us...sniff..sniff...
I gave Joe the link to this thread too...dunno if he'll stop in, and maybe they know about us nuts over here already; but, there ya go.

Joe was very quick to respond when I emailed about the SN chart as well. I told them they had a strong following here, but didn't think to link to give a link to the thread. This could get interesting.
just goes to show--it never hurts to ask! speaking of which, maybe we should orchestrate a campaign to bring back the fish! if enough of us pestered joe on a regular basis--and clearly stated we would buy more 'fish if they were available--he might do a limited run again or a new 'fish production model!

G&L has proven responsive to doing limited pre-paid runs of two custom forum designed basses now; so, who knows.

yea--lakland too--the big difference though is both those companies currently produce basses--reverend doesn't.
As a current owner of 2 'fish, I'm a qualified prospect for a new one! Truth is, new 'fish would probably depress the value of existing ones but I would like the option of new colors, features, configurations etc.
