No doubt about it. I had the chance to A/B my beloved blue 'Fish with a NYC Sadowsky J/J, and it was a dead heat for playability. Tone-wise, I thought the Reverend sounded every bit as good as the Sadowsky in passive mode. (Of course, flip that Sadowsky preamp on and it's "game over"..)

secret: the sad preamp was designed by the sam guy that did the aggie stuff.
early ones even had the wires the same colors.

take an opb-1, add the passive volume control(the schematic for which is posted on the aggie site), and there ya go.

I've been contemplating doing this to a 5L for some time; just haven't yet. Plenty of room under the p/g, and by removing the mini switch, I don't think you'd have to change the p/g...given that you used two stack pots: vol+blend/passive tone, treb+bass.

Probably heresy to some...

You can also get the Sadowsky pre as an outboard unit. No mods necessary in that case, though obviously the controls are on the floor.

I'm not the biggest Sadowsky fanboy around, but I do loves me that preamp. That's why the NYC PJ shares time with the PJ 'fish as my #1.

Yeah, I'm reluctant to mod a fish unless the mod is reversible. It would be interesting to see what an Audere or Aggie or something would sound like in the Houser, though . . . :hmm:

Well, I have a USA Fender P-Bass with the Sadowsky Pre, Pup & VTC. I'll bet that Pre/VTC would do WONDERS to a PJ Reverend!!! Plus you pull the VTC knob out, and it's Passive again...Hmmm...And if I moved the Jack to Side-Mount, there would be the Right number of holes in the Pick Guard! All I need now is an EXTRA PJ, and all the Sadowsky-Gutz...

I do believe that aged-yellow beauty used to be mine. Did the previous owner get it from Bass & Beyond? If it is the same bass, it was quite a bit heavier than my other fish. It felt much more solid to me.

Although the extra string retainer is less than elegant looking I do admit that getting a good break angle on the A string over the nut takes some getting used to (I've wasted at least one string cutting it too short for effective use on my Rumblefish). If I don't have enough wraps on the post I get buzzing on the headstock side of the nut on the A.

I also admit to daydreaming about whether G&L MFD humbuckers would fit in place of the EMGs hacked in to that 'Fish. An idle daydream, but fun.
