Here's a pic of my Swirly PJ and my white PJ in it's former iteration:
But the white PJ has now been transformed into an XL. I already had the pickups and the body had been drilled so it was interchangable (it had once been a JJ), and had a whole new wiring harness made for the XL so the conversion from PJ to XL would be simpler -- just unscrewing it all and reattaching the ground wire.
So here's what my fish look like now:
I nearly had a w/b/w PG made for it, but I kind of like the look of the silver one I already had. The tech did do something funky with the wiring though -- he wired it with two volume knobs and so that when you pull out the front knob, the pickups are placed in series. This does allow me to have volume knobs for both pickups when in parallel, as well as the option of serial. But he wired the tone into the switch so that middle position = out of the loop, up = small capacitor, slight tone rolloff, down = larger capacitor, all the way rolled off. I'm not sure if I like it.
The white PJ/XL fish may get sold in a few months. I find myself playing the Swirly one all the time and have a new Sadowsky, too. But I don't want to put it up until I'm sure I won't miss it. I also want to play with it for a while as an XL.

i was thoroughly unimpressed with my Rev JJ4; but i'd always wanted to play an XLJJ4. I'd really like to a/b that with a 5L to get a feel how the pickup placement changes things.
I suspect I'd like your 4 strings spacing better than the 5L, but, who knows. Not me

Hey all, I can't think of a better place to post this:
So, I've been a lurker on TB for years and just recently started posting as I've finally caught the GAS.
I've been looking for a Reverend Fish to try out for almost 6 months now, and I've had zero luck on the purchasing front... anyone have any tips on how to find one of these feesh?
Even better... anyone have an extra 4 stringer they're looking to sell?
Any advice on where to look would be mucho apreciado.

Unfortunately, I'm 25 and new to the wide world of EVERYTHING on a grand scale. (I feel this is a pretty smart outlook for a 25 year old to have)
I've read a lot of your passive and rumblefish love comments. It seems you're the man I should talk to about what I love in tone.
Don't get me wrong, there's a special place in my heart for a Modulus with EMG P/J on a BTC, but truly I have found my tone Zen in the passive pickups and "world of wood" tone.
In summation: any advice you have for a young ninja would be considered wisdom. Thanks-- BBak.

There's ebay and craigslist.
Daktari here has an ear pretty close to the market.

makes me think you would prefer a reverend PJ or Brad Houser 5 more than a 5L though. They're more purely organic, whereas the 5L has a funkified flavor all it's own, really.

I'm also strictly a 4 stringer these days... someone has to hold down the four string funk in these days of Five.
I am watching the world for a good colored PJ (ideally an XL if they made them).
Do you have an opinion of Maple versus Rosewood boards? (not just on Revs, but in general too)
I've always played rosewood cuz if it ain't broke, I don't have the money to fix it.
This doesn't mean my next investment couldn't be maple necked.
Do you have any other passive tone zone suggestions? I've heard good things about the G&L ASAT in passive mode... got any more two cents in your lint pocket?

I checked out the Coppolo website and I now have something to save for while enjoying my Fender standard Jazz.
Prolly gonna sell the Old DS2 here in a couple days to start the fundage stream rolling. Those are "forever" basses if I ever seen em.

The reason I like the maple necked Revs is that the side dots are black on a maple neck. With the rosewood boards, the side dots are white, and half set into the maple neck, so they're a little more difficult to see on a darkened stage.
Not a big deal for most, and rosewood boards are far more common, but I'm a bass whore who constantly switches between Reverends and other basses which hang differently, and so I like to be able to see the side dots well on stage.
Other than that and the obvious difference in look, I don't see much of a difference between maple and rosewood.
