Just got the breathless call from Noah, the tech at McNeil's (in Ithaca, NY): "Your Dub King is here, and it is absolutely gorgeous."

He's going to slap on some Chromes for me (see every post I've ever written on strings), adjust the setup as necessary, and it is ready for me.

I wish I could pick it up tonight, but it's going to have to wait until tomorrow. I'll be playing it out at a few places Sunday, and will report back.

Love the color and how it fits your band's look.

Chef or anyone else: I know the 5-stringers are 35" scale. Do they need the extra long 36" scale strings or can the regular 34" scale sets be made to fit?

I made the regular scale fit on my 5L. All the strings were fine, except for the B. The taper started JUST before the nut I just put a small piece of toothpick under the string at the nut. It never slipped.

I'd rather have a correct length string.
That's just me, and I'm sure what you did works.

I'm right with you Chef. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case anyone else makes the same mistake! I'd hate anyone to throw away $45 on a good set of strings.

That would only apply to someone with just one bass.

Who won the Red/Rosewood 5L? I fought the urge to get involved in the bidding mostly cause of being broke.

Sounded amazing at McNeil Music (special shout out to my new friends there. Noah, who changed the strings to D'Addario Chromes, and redid the setup, get's special Ups - I feel like I've always known him).

It gets played out tomorrow. Tonight we both rest.

Congrats! I picked mine up on Friday afternoon...it was set up really well, being the 2nd prototype, used to fine tune any details with...pictures don't do this instrument justice! I love seeing wood grain and the gorgeous Rock Orange really shows off the tight, spruce grain...Acoustic projection is great, before plugging in...It still has the initial test strings, but wanting to go with my favorite Chromes, I'd imagine 'longs' will work with the 30" scale/string thru setup? I'm looking forward to your live review!

I'm back up to two for old-style Rev basses. Via the Reverend forum I added an XL. I was originally planning on converting it to a PJ since I've always preferred my PJ very strongly over any JJ or XL 'Fish I've had but right now I'm enjoying it so much in series that it may stay as-is. I love what the semihollow Rumblefish construction does for their tone . . .

I've always wanted to try a 4 banger XL. I think I'd prefer it over the 5L_XL due to the more normal pickup spacing.

Longs work just fine. I'm a little unused to how much tension there is (the short-scale thing). Beginning to think maybe some T-I's might end up as the best match here. Stay tuned.

An interesting thing was that, when the tech redid the intonation with the Chromes, he had to set the E-string bridge adjustment to its extreme rear position. So far back that the adjusting screw was all the way up, and there was no room to put in the set screw.
