The Reverend Club (part 7)

Here we are, third week of March. Anybody know anything about the new Reverend basses being delivered? I ordered a Dub King the day it hit the catalog, and now I'm impatient. How un-virtuous of me!

Just ordered a Mercalli 5 from Tom Lee. I was informed of a 3 to 4 week wait.

Mercalli 5 in metallic blue is $1099. I didn't try to talk them down on the price... although with the current CDN > US $ difference there may have been some room for that.

The pictures of the metallic blue do not do it justice. It's gorgeous. Ken told me that customs has ALL the basses in Seattle and isn't releasing them! So there might be a little longer wait. Also, he told me the metallic blue wasn't generating much interest...he was thinking abut dropping it and going to a different color.

$1295.00 for the 2nd most common, (12 red mahogany) colored Houser...

While it may be the second most common, there's still only 78 others of any color.
Very few of which are available for purchase at any given time.

Frankly, if you don't care for the crazy colors, the mahogany is very nice.

I think this is a great deal. These basses feel and sound as good as other instruments over 2k yet have a nice collector appeal. The mahogany is nice and neutral looking... very down to earth IMO.

In all honesty, Reverend's Red Mahogany was one of their most dignified offerings. It's also my favorite tone wood...while there are hardwoods with remarkable grain and coloration, there's something about that understated, deep red...since I own a Houser, I'm just surprised about the current asking price. It will be interesting to see when and what it goes for?

OK, guys. I need some input here.
I have a fretless Carvin SB5000 on the way, should be here in five or six weeks. Assuming I decide to keep it, I've got to bite the bullet and sell a bass to make room. My Fender Precision 5 isn't going anywhere, so that leaves my Reverends, the 4 and the 5.
Why sell/keep the 4? I haven't played 4-string in more than a year and I don't see going back. But this bass, #47, was my first Reverend and has a lot of sentimental value. (Of course, sentimental value + $3.50 will get me a gallon of gas..) And, there's always the non-specific argument for keeping a 4-string around.
Why sell/keep the 5? I don't really need more than one fretted 5. And I'm not convinced I love the 35" scale. But, it's a really cool bass. And I have this psychological thing about needing to have a Reverend in the rotation, because I've been playing them since 1998 and I'm a "Reverend guy."
So, if it were you, what would you do?
