It also had the nasty habit of dealing a blow to the re-sale value of the Reverend... when you take the brass behemoth off, you are left with nasty holes in the headstock.

NICE DAK! I have the same bass but with a maple fingerboard. Sounds like a million bucks! played my very modded orange pj last night these basses really are amazing. can not wait for the Decision to show up at my door!

my new mercalli is awesome. better after i put hipshot ultralights on it. with flats (DR) it is super woody and vintage sounding. the stock tuners are heavy, and really seem to smear and compress the sound. also, i took a dremel and ground the polepieces under the G and B strings about 1/8". this cured the B and G being too loud. it's also ugly, since the covers are not removable. worth it, though. gotta have balance!!!!! J-bass PU typically have the same problem, and i've taken a grinder to those, too.
i played all the rev's at dallas gtr show. the dub king is awesome. i want one. i also envision a mercalli 5 neck on a dub king body, with the bridge all the way back. look out! i also really like the decision 4, and the thundergun. bh

the dub king is amazing. and i didn't get to play it with flats!!! it is the ****.

putting hipshot ultralights on made a HUGE difference!!!!! i use DR flats, and the bass "opened up" and got a lot woodier. the heavy stock tuners were compressing and smearing the sound, and it was a little neck heavy.

I'm imagining a dub king with a mercalli 5 neck. bridge all the way back. when i put my mercalli 5 next to a dub king, and aligned the nuts, i saw that it would work.

Lakland flats on BH5 are awesome. i also love DR flats on anything I've put them on.

mercalli spacing is awesome. also the wider spacing on the new 4's is great. but i like p-basses...........

Lakland and DR flats rule.

Before I played note one on my Dub King, I had D'Addario Chromes installed (like all my 4s). It IS awesome. Response from the audience/other musicians and bass players has been excellent.

Now you have me thinking - Hipshot Ultralights for the DK? I put them on my PJ 'Fish when one of the original tuners broke, and they were great.

Kind of thing that makes you go hmmmmmm....

I have the ultralights on all my old school Rev's, but I did it cause I thought the clover-leafs looked a lot better than the stock y-keys.
I don't remember a big sonic difference, but, I wasn't listening for one at the time.

Thanks Brad for the info!! My decision I am told will ship monday. The ultralights are on my rumblefish and they are awesome. I use a hipshot dtuner and it seems the d-tuner for the ultralights comes back in tune better. Anyone else notice this?
I have never tried the DR Flats being in NJ I guess I could swing over to there office and see if I could "test drive" Them. haha. Are they more like the chromes or more like a half round? I love daddario half rounds just wish someone else would make a set.

If they sound and play the way the company says they do, they're probably not for me. I'm not just after the feel of flatwounds - I like the sound of flatwounds, especially really old flats. I've had one set of Chromes on my PJ since I got it in '03 - and they just keep on getting better.
