I use the wink emoticon all the time as do a lot of people around here, so I wouldn't put too much stock in that.

I've personally never understood trolls or fanboys on forums like this. Could never get what the motivation would be to blindly bash or blindly praise a product made by a company that you have no financial interest in. I consider it childish and borderline psychotic behavior.

I found out about the fingerboard wood change AFTER i got the first bass from MF. I called Troy the day it arrived to ask him about the cracks. I was working on a deal with him on the 360/12 at the same time and he knew I had already bought a 4003 from MF. He emailed me his price so I could get the price protection from MF I mentioned last week.

After learning that these 2011s were likely the last few remaining 4003s with the better fingerboards, that is when I decided to pursue getting a replacement from them instead of simply getting a refund and waiting for Wildwood to get a 2013.

You're a real piece of work! Even with all of these photos I have posted proving I have a legit issue here, you still throw out all this wild conspiracy crap?

Man! You need professional help! :eyebrow: Probably one of the biggest fanboys I have come across in a very long time. You should hit up RIC for a job! lol!

FULL WARRANTY!

I just heard back from RIC. They said that if I decide to keep the third 4003 and register it with them, they will cover it under warranty and will repair any finish/materials issues that may develop down the road.

So there ya go! Full warranty! :)

No objections to that response.

Thats great to hear. I purchased a 2010 4003 from MF back in May of 2011, and it was perfect. I hope this time yours is too.

Great to hear some positive comments on Ric's customer service, as it isn't often that i read about it in a post.

I thought so! That was all I basically wanted from them in case this third one's finish starts to go later, or already has some minor cracks when I get it today. MF said they thoroughly inspected the body near the tailpiece and saw no issues, cracks etc., but you never know how closely they looked. The photo I saw looked clean, but it wasn't an ultra-closeup like the ones I took.

Thanks man! Wildwood said that too, but they were getting fewer and farther between compared to the new brown rosewood by then, so the odds would be stacked more against getting that wood after 2011 than getting one with it.

Took them awhile to go through all their remaining old stock of the Bubinga so you could see maybe see a few here or there and then eventually, gone for good. Troy said they haven't seen anything from RIC with that wood in close to a year now.

I don't know where you got the idea that that chechen (caribbean rosewood) is always brown or that bubinga is always red, but both run the spectrum from brown to red.

For example, this is chechen:

RIC's bubinga always looked pink with smoky black grain to me. The Caribbean rosewood they use looks like a chocolate color with grain more resembling the light colored grain of ebony. Then again I've only seen photos. I definitely am glad they are making the "green" choice with the Caribbean rosewood but I do think the bubinga looked good, especially with Jetglo. The new wood probably looks better with FG/MG.

Exactly! It can vary in color, but I have yet to see any of the new guitars with the new wood that were red. Everything I have seen in photos here and on the web all look brown or a kind of golden brown/greenish hue.

On a FireGlo or MapleGlo that would look just fine, but not on a JetGlo.

Third Bass Has Arrived!

Well... This one is MUCH better than the other two, but unfortunately, it too is starting to go at the tailpiece. The cracks are much shorter in length, but there are more of them.

The fretboard is gorgeous, and based on the great price I got from MF, I am going to keep this one and send it to RIC for a refinish.

I just got off the phone with RIC and they told me that they could strip and respray this bass since I wanted the old style fretboard it has.

As soon as they get the warranty card, which I just now mailed off, we can begin the process of getting the bass down to them for the work.

In the meantime, I am going to buy a FireGlo 4003 from Wildwood as soon as they get one in stock. It might be a month or so before the JetGlo gets back to me and I would like to have a 4003 to record with sooner than that.

I wouldn't mind having two of these, since I like the FireGlo finish almost as much as the JetGlo! It would also match my 360/12 which is also in FireGlo! :)

So there ya go! Can't take photos just now, but hopefully later!

I think I am going to set this up myself and play it for a couple of weeks before I send it down to the RIC factory for the refinish. I need to get those songs finished and I may as well bond with this thing for awhile first right?

I'm pretty stoked with the deal I got on this! Especially now that RIC is going to make it as good as new! Even though it will be away for maybe a month down there in Santa Ana, when it comes back, hopefully it will look just as good as a brand new one does, and still have the old classic Bubinga board! :)

So you guys...I guess that concludes the saga of the MF 2011 4003 JetGlo Bass Debacle! ;)

Thanks to everyone who got involved and for all the helpful info along the way! Its been a very interesting couple of weeks! :)

I have seen this before on basses and it has to do with the tailpiece locking down into the finish...it is a factory flaw and it does not show up until the bass moves around a bit...I am playing an 89 blackstar atm...doesn't have that issue..... :)

Yeah...I figure I can put a different kind of string on one of the 4003s so I can have a wider variety of sound possibilities out of two of them. Between those and my Deluxe J Bass, I should have most of the sonic possibilities covered! :)

WOW! I have heard that some colors are only run once a year. Sounds like your Midnight Blue is one of those! I am sure it will be worth the wait though. I have seen that color before.

Have you guys seen some of the "One Offs" on the RIC facebook page? They had a dark purple 360 that looked really cool!

P.S. The 360/12 looks incredible in person by the way! Plays really nice too! Haven't plugged it in yet. Was just plunking around acoustically and tuning it up to pitch after the trip from Colorado.
