Here's a story for all the righties who have 20+ to choose from on ebay on any given day:

I was looking for a long time too. Nothing. The more I couldn't find one, the more I wanted one. Got so tired of empty ebay searches, empty message board and classified posts. I even had 2 people in London try to scam me by sending emails with images of Rics from "sold" sites or discontinued sites telling me they needed to sell for medical bills..... after calling them out on the pics, they disappeared .......so dangerous out there. Lefty Rics are bought site unseen, so I could easily see scams happening to people not careful.

1 or 2 popped up in europe, but cost and trust killed it.

I finally found a jetglo 08 from a google search at a store called Musiczoo -- for 2200. I looked at it everyday for a week trying to justify it, and the day I decided to put a deposit on it it was gone. Coincidentally, the same day I posted a TB thread asking should I do buy it.......Hmm

There was one at chicagomusicexchange for well over 3k -- couldn't do it. Now gone.

I had been sending blind emails to online stores asking to keep me on a list if they ever got one, got nothing but laughs. And by total dumb luck I got a response the day I sent one to southpawguitars.com. Don't know why I sent it, their site clearly said "we're no longer a Rickenbacker dealer" - I think in protest to Ric stopping the lefty line -- but they had just got a trade-in that day. I called them the next day and they already had several people call on it and one guy calling to wire money. They said they'd sell to whoever put money down first -- had to jump. Still smarting from the cost, but it is the best bass I have ever played.

I call my lefty Ric "the Grail"

I've decided to get a little more involved in talk bass and so I'm joining a few clubs. Here's some pictures of my 3 ricks: an 87 4003s8FG, a 66 4005FG, and a 76 4001MG. LUV them all!!

From Beyond, Thanks,the 4005 sounds alot like my 4001 except with obviously a more hollowbody tone/thump. When I first got it it sounded IMO, pretty bad, with just the plink/plunk type tone. I removed the .0047 cap (before I knew about the bypass mod)and man did it come alive!! "Whew, I've got a real bass now." The neck also had a substantial bow but I was able to pull the rods and bend them a little and after about the third attempt it straightened right out.
I've gotta say that this is one of the fastest/thinest necks on any bass I've ever played. Those are replacement toasters and they came with the bass back when I got it around 2002. Some previous owner had installed a set of bill lawrence pups in it and unfortunately they had enlarged the pup openings. If you look closely you can see the black rubber surrounds that cover the edge of the holes and the bridge pup looks a little askew. I've since then straightened that pup.

That's interesting. I didn't know that. Where did you find this out? Printed source, word of mouth, website/discussion board?
