I imagine this topic has come up in the past, but my search came up short. I have been using Rickenbacker strings on my 4003 because well, I do like them and they're the only strings that I knew of with the uncommon factory 45/55/75/105 gauges. I recently stumbled upon [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] where I can order a custom set in those gauges. Has anyone tried these?

Just strung up this set. First impressions are excellent. Bright, punchy and smooth.

I just started noticing that some Ricks have a dot marker at 19, and some don't

the old 4001s aka rm1999 from the 60s did not have it ... newer models did have it ... reissue models don't have it

Hmm, why is it that one of my 2010s 4004 basses have it and the other doesn't? And, they're different sizes, too.

ya after 2010 they can be either way ... the older 4004s with the wider fretboard had the extra dot ... then they started using the thinner 4003s style necks on the 4004.
