No matter how hard I try, I cannot seem to escape the allure of Warwick and Spector Basses. Maybe I need help, maybe I have figured out something that others have not, but regardless here we are.

I have long since searched for "my" Bass, and I believe I have found it. But in my trademark spirit of futility here goes another "help me find my Bass thread" (I believe this is the fourth one or so).


This Bass that will shake the earth, crack the sky, and cure my GAS is either:

- Maple bolt-on neck with mahogany body
- Figured maple top
- Pau Ferro fingerboard
- [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
- black hardware
- EMG 30CSTW PU set
- Aguilar OBP-3 preamp
- 35" scale

or the

Warwick Streamer $$ 5
- Maple bolt-on neck with swamp ash body
- Wenge fingerboard
- Nirvana Blackburst gloss finish
- black hardware
- MEC active twin J PU set
- Bartolini 18v NTMB3 preamp (config 3)
- 34" scale


Both instruments will be made in the custom shop, so there is no difference in quality and the prices of both instruments will be practically the same (around $2500) so it is down to features/sound to help me choose. Of course your opinions on the above will help tip my interest towards one of the two.

Not Nirvana Black, Nirvana Blackburst.

It is the Warwick equivalent of the Gibson Silverburst.

Both are great basses. Lets see which specs look best:

Spector USA NS-5H2-FM
Yes - Maple bolt-on neck with mahogany body
Yes - Figured maple top
No - Pau Ferro fingerboard
Yes - Walnut Stain satin finish
Yes - black hardware
No - EMG 30CSTW PU set
Yes - Aguilar OBP-3 preamp

Looks like the slight edge (for me) goes to the Wick.
I've never been a fan of blackburst on figured wood, the lighter part of the burst always seems to take on a purpleish tint in bright light. I also like mahogany more than swamp ash but would like a figured bubinga with an oil or satin finish even more. As for necks, fingerboard has got to be Wenge or Rosewood for my tastes. I also agree with the other poster that the buck and a half might sound better than the $$.
Hey, this is kinda fun spending other peoples money.:D

Btw, the twin J pickups on the Warwick are like the humbuckers on the Fender Roscoe Beck or the Am Dlx P. You can see the actual MEC PU on the silverburst Vampyre in the third post. Also, the Streamer has a plain swamp ash body, so the silverburst wont purple like the Vampyre up there.
