I'd actually love to have one as well but so far I'm way too happy with my Jag VI.

Edit: So, I looked around for a tape measure, couldn't find one and looked around wikipedia. They claim the Jag VI is a 28.5" scale and it's not on the Fender website anymore. So, I'm going to assume Pennydreadful is right.

yeah, the jag bari is 28.5
works pretty well for E-E. i just did a whole tour with it actually. not too bad! the lowest notes are tricky to keep in tune for sure. it sounded AMAZING when i had it tuned B-B with different strings. passable at E-E with the bass VI strings

btw, there is a special string set for the jag bari, the regular bass VI strings wont wor. the ball end wrapping is too big, they make a special set for the jaguar. it's got a -001 at the end of the model # or something like that. the strings are expensive so it sucks when one breaks (i broke one on tour, now the D is all bright and the rest are broken in lol)

i just got a gretsch bass VI, the g5265. just a touch under 30". so killer, i love it. havent tried it with my real rig yet so who knows. this is actually my second, got the 1st from musician's friend, it showed up all kinds of busted so i exchanged it. this one's not perfect either, the bigsby's a little clicky. the bass notes are much much stronger than on the jag bari too which is great. i play these bass VI types as my main thing right now. i just asked fender today (they do the gretsch stuff nowadays), they said those are the strings that are usually shipped on the gretsch jet baritones, unless they run out and then who knows what they use (that is what he said haha)

i was reading the miles david autobiography recently. he was talking about going for tuna (funny typo, i mean TUBA) on that one album over bari sax. got me thinking about how bass VI is kinda like bari sax and regular 4 string bass is more of a tuba. one's not better than the other, they just have different voices

Nah, a Bass VI would be more like a bass sax than a bari sax. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_saxophone

But even that analogy isn't quite perfect, as a Bass VI can function like any other short-scale bass, tuned down to E.

And my Hellcat VI *definitely* sounds like a bass when I play it as a bass, there's no mistaking it for something other than a bass.

I'm planning on rewiring my Hellcat (new pickups, a couple other things), and I'm going to add individual pickup switching so I can get B+N and all-on. You can do this without changing your pickguard, btw, just put three mini-toggles in the slot for the 5-way switch.

I'm debating whether it's worth adding phase switching or series routing...currently my plan is to use tapped single coil pickups and have each switch be on/off/tap.

hmm i was actually thinking of changing my pickguard, actually... my hellcat's a black one, but i'd really like a tortoiseshell pickguard... but with a chrome segment near the tone knobs, like a fender... and i could have mini toggles installed but move them up on the lower horn area and have a little chrome plate around them. i'll do a photoshop mockup when i get the energy to....

Nice. You'll probably have to route the body to move the pickup switches to the lower horn, though; I have a Hellcat guitar (the Jaguar/Jazzmaster-looking one) with switches in that position and there's a separate route that looks like it was added specifically for that guitar. I haven't looked under my VI pickguard yet.

I really like the three-switch controls, btw. Not quite as fast as a 5-way, but more versatile.

I have an old Teisco TB-64. I've tried to play it, but it's just not my thing, so I'm letting it go. ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=270216627070 - for anyone who might be interested)

I'd love to get something similar, but with a more comfortable neck someday. I love the Bass VI style tuning, but I can't get my smallish hands around that thick Teisco neck.

I plan on getting a Bass VI style instrument soon, and have a couple of questions. If I can't locate an Olp MM5, I will go with the Dano Baritone Neck, and put in on another guitar body. The guitar I have in mind is the Link Removed . For only 100 dollars, the combination of a large heavy body, and a tremolo make it very appealing to me. My only concern is the bridge not being big enough for the larger gauge strings. Anyone here have expiernce putting these strings on a standard sized guitar bridge? Also, which pickups do you guys find work best for this sound. Anyone try Single Coils, P90s, or Humbuckers. Are their any pickup type you would avoid?

I doubt you're going to get the amount of $$$ you're looking for... There was some recent weirdness with fraudulent inflated bidding and then a fraudulent re-listed auction for a TB-64 on eBay that may have skewed the perception of market value to people casually looking for these partucular instruments on eBay

I saw the fraudulent relisted auction, but I didn't know there was any problem with the original auction. There were a few high bidders and the guy who won looked reasonable (plenty of feedback, etc)

My BIN is high, but I'm not really expecting anyone to hit that. It's more there so I don't get emails asking me to end the auction early.

The reserve is set at less than half the price of the BIN.

FWIW, there was another homebrew TB-64 (Teisco Baritone neck on a heavily modified Teisco body with only 2 pickups), that went for $600+, so I think it's reasonable that I might hit the reserve.

I'm all for you getting whatever you can get for whatever you're selling. Right now, the market is overinflated for much of the vintage cheapo stuff like Harmony, Teisco, etc. If you're looking to sell, then now's a good time to try!
