I just got my gretsch in the mail today. The pictures on musiciansfriend do not do it justice. It is one of prettiest guitars I have seen. I am liking it so far but the scale and string spacing are still a little awkward, but i am starting to adjust. I like the sound but it will NEVER take the place of my jazz. it sounds much more like a down tuned guitar than a bass.

What companies make strings for these? The ones that came on it are very floppy and I want to get some with a little heavier gauge.

So would that make me #20?

Very nice! I pulled the trigger on a Gretsch G5265 Jet Baritone the other day. It's a special order, but I don't mind the wait. Ok, I mind the wait, but I'm getting it for a steal! ;)

I bought this with the intention of using it in an acoustic duo (well, acoustic guitar & electric 30" baritone). I don't think this'll ever replace my jazzes in the rock band, but this may blend well in the duo setting.

Anyone got some audio clips?

Welcome to the world of traditional six-string basses! They're like seductive women sometimes....

Not sure about strings for the Gretsch as I don't have one of them. I do, however, know there are at least two other guys in this group who have them and use them as basses.

You're talking about the one in black with humbuckers, right? Because my Jag VI is 30" and the Jag Bari was tuned B-b from the factory.

I'd actually love to have one as well but so far I'm way too happy with my Jag VI.

Edit: So, I looked around for a tape measure, couldn't find one and looked around wikipedia. They claim the Jag VI is a 28.5" scale and it's not on the Fender website anymore. So, I'm going to assume Pennydreadful is right.

I use that set on my Fender Bass VI, but I think that the D'Addarrio set that iamthebassman suggested would probably be better for the Gretsch. The headstock difference, with the three tuners on a side type, probably has something to with it. I think the 5350 is a good set on the Fender but most players of the other types -- i.e. Jerry Jones, Gretsch, Music Man seem to prefer the D'Addarrio. I have heard some Schecter Hellcat VI players say, however, that they prefer the Fender 5350's (but then again the design of that instrument is similar to the Fender). So I guess the general consensus is that if you're using a non-Fender, try the D'Addarrios first. Hope this helps somewhat.

Not the black one. It was a burst/tort combo. Is that the one you have?
