The Simpsons Solo Arrangement Video!

Man was just saying people jesus calm down !!!! god man even billy sheehan admits to "ripping" people off you know he always say's got hammer on's and pinch harmonics from billy gibbons and what gauge strings you use stu ?? in my point of veiw after tlaking to a bass player I know we were discussing that bass is a strength instrument and needs to be played like a strength instrument also a few top players have also noted this aka.. john entwistle , geddy lee, marcus miller, and billy sheehan what do you think of that ??

I think you're really obnoxious, that's what I think of that. How long have you been playing? What are your credentials? The reason I ask is because no player with any experience whatsoever would accuse someone like Stuart Clayton of ripping off some unknown dude from the internet. And there's a huge difference between Billy Sheehan saying he stole pinch harmonics from Billy Gibbons (who stole them from Roy Buchanan, but I would have the class not to tell it to his face even though we both know it) and some kid on the internet who's all assed up accusing a well-known bassist like Stuart Clayton of stealing from someone on the internet. Even if it was true, and it's obviously not, it's a pretty low-class thing for one musician to do to another on a public forum. Especially when it's a guy who's done a lot of great things like Stuart Clayton being accused by some internet twit who we don't know from Adam.

As to your strength instrument business, judging from the way you conduct yourself in this thread, I don't think you know enough about playing bass to be making any sort of judgments about the way anyone else plays. So calm down and know your role.

BTW, Stuart, great job...I thought the other guy did a decent job as well, but he was a little too herky-jerky for me, where yours is smooth and sounds more like music.

And congratulations on gigging with one of the greatest drummers of all time. He was a huge influence on me while I was growing up (Carl Palmer in case others are wondering). What type of stuff are you doing with him? Is it a greatest hits show or something else entirely?

Thanks JimmyM. Carl is great fun to play and work with. A really nice guy as well as a great drummer. We actually play a few ELP pieces, such as Tarkus, Trilogy, Tank and Toccata, all reinterpreted to be performed by a rock trio - bass, guitar and drums. Both the guitarist and I both use a lot of effects to add variety to the overall sound, and on the whole it's an extremely technical gig - a dream gig for a bassist really.

We also play rocked-up classical works that ELP did, including the 25minute long 'Pictures At An Exhibition'. We tour Europe a great deal, and tour dates are usually posted on my website, and certainly on Carl's (www.carlpalmer.com).

Back in 2006 we toured the US. When in Springfield (I forget which one!), I closed my solo with 'The Simpsons'. It seemed appropriate!!

Of course! BTW, I'm pretty sure the Simpsons' Springfield is Illinois, even though they never say. There's a city right next to Springfield called Shelbyville, so it would make sense.

Hope you guys come back here, although it looks like Carl is going to have his hands full with Asia next year. To be honest, I'd rather see Carl rock it up with you. BTW, that guitarist looks like he's about 13 ;)

I usually really don't like a lot of people who like these tapping/touchstyle arrangement. You're one of those I like. Great taste in both your pieces. I'm really truly amazed of your arranging skills.

Guitar player is Paul Bielatowicz (great player), and he's 29. He is asked his age at EVERY gig, without fail!!!

Hi Ganga,

I know what you mean, the way the technique is used sometimes can be quite unmusical. I'm really glad you liked my arrangement, because my aim was to demonstrate how a technique that is so often abused can actually be used musically, to play a very challenging piece of music.
