Wanted to add that the SR500 is from 2006 and is amazing! It has a Wenge/Bubinga neck and the action is nice and low. The SR5CMLTD is the best 5er I've ever played! Very low action on that bass as well.
Think I'm finally sucking it up and getting the preamp upgraded in my old SRX505. Any input on whether or not to keep the original configuration (Blend/Volume/Bass/Treble) or go all out with a 3 band EQ with push/pull for both active/passive and low/high mids? Whatever I do, it will likely be a Bartolini preamp, as I quite enjoyed that upgrade in my SR505 a few years ago. Nice and clear tones, plenty of flexibility, no harsh treble and clears up the muddy lows. If it matters at all, the bass being upgraded will be tuned a whole step down. Thanks in advance.
The SR500 is ridiculously good value. They have great playability and decent sounding pickups. After a preamp upgrade one has a professional instrument for a bargain price.
I agree. I traded a loaded warmoth p bass neck for the entire bass. The bass sounds really good. It has the lowest action of any 4 string Ibanez bass I have owned. Mine came with a stock ibanez preamp (like the ones on the SR300E) instead of the factory Bart pre. It was installed by the previous owner.

I recently got myself an SR606e and I'm thrilled! I always wanted a 6 string and that one was the perfect choice for me (every features were just perfect, the ash body, the blue burst finish, the choice of pickups…).
Now… I need a 4 string and I'm looking into the Soundgear line since I'm satisfied with the 6er.
My question: what are the differences in tone between the PowerSpan, the Bartolini BH2 and the Nordstrand Big single pickups ? (I wouldn't go with a model with the same pickups than my 6er to avoid redundancy)

From meh to great: BH2, Powerspan, Big Singles. The BH2 are fat and indistinct. There are a few out there that like them, but many people find themselves wanting to replace them. The Powerspan pickups are good, and the preamp gives you a few different sounds with a switch, but they're only available in mid tier Soundgear basses. Big Singles are great sounding pickups! They're true single-coil pickups, though, so you'll get some hum when soloed.
Hi guys been ages since I was on TB! Had to quit bass due to balance issues and arthritis but have done heaps of physio and just bought a mint SR405EQM-DEB and the necks thin enough not to trash my hand with arthritis. Yeah!!
Now the guy I bought it from said it's one of the first run from Indonesia with a mahogany body and rosewood neck.
I've tried searching the serial number to get more info but nothing comes up.
Anyone know how I would find out the exact details of the bass?

Good snag. Post some pics (including the S/N) and these wiz-kids will fill-in the blanks. I'm guessing the fingerboard is rosewood, not the entire neck.

from what I've read the original sr405s we're made between 2016-2018.
Also I tried to lower the action as it's a bit high for me but got lots of fret buzz above the 12th fret. Can you set these up with low action? Do I need to alter the truss rod. The tuning and internation are fine.

Very nice. You should really get the relief (truss rod) dialed-in first. If unfamiliar with the process, get a knowledgeable helping hand.

Yeah never been confident with truss rod adjustments so a helping hand might be the go.
Ibanez recycle basic model numbers like BMW do. The 405 first came out in 94 according to this, and your particular version as per my earlier link. That site is generally accurate WRT to production years.
Yes, all of mine have low action, and I have several SRs now and have owned several more.
Sounds like the truss rod should get turned clockwise. Just a small turn and see how that does. I'll turn mine and retune, readjust string height and typically that's enough to fix a little buzz. If it's a fret out or heavy buzz then check the frets and see if they are leveled. Also look for bow and twist in the neck at that point. Typically I only adjust the truss rod in small incriments and let it adjust for a while before making another adjustment. The wood will move as you adjust and afterwards where it sets into it's final place. You'll know how it moves by the pitch of the strings. You'll adjust, tune set it down and then next day it'll probably go a little flat on each string meaning it straightened out the neck while it worked into place. Same goes for backing off the truss rod except that it'll be sharp when you check later.
Thx. From what I read of the sr405EQM the first were made between 2016-2018. I guess on the manual cover it says 2017.
According to the S/N on the back of the headstock it's a 2019.

Yeah, Ive been researching what the Jatoba frett boards look like and there a much lighter and an uneven colour. From what I can tell from pics the even dark tone of my frett board appears to be rosewood. Also from my limited knowlege the grains on the body look a lot like mahogany. So all good. Thx for peoples input.
Jatoba varies a lot so even and dark does not mean it's rosewood. Also nyatoh, depending on how it's finished will look a lot like some mahoganys too. You seem to be desperate to be able to say it's RW/mahogany as though the jatoba/nyatoh are inferior; they're not.

Its all good, definitley not desperate bro, just trying to see if what the guy who bought it new was correct in telling me what the woods were. He was certain it was the RW/M. Makes little difference to me as its still a awesome bass that I can actually play.
