I would think the Wilde pickups would give you what you want. Vintageish with a broader frequency response.

I've got a '96 sr1200, I tried to keep the stock electronics & pickups, but the wiring was bad and a couple of the circuit boards had damage from attempted repairs by POs, and the AFR-J didn't pick up sound from the A-string any more.
I replaced the pickup with a new/nos? from Ibanez part, and the electronics with an EMG BQC System, to keep the same functionality as stock (I added EMG plug & play connectors to the pickups & output jack)
It was a tight fit, but worked out really great, and sounds pretty awesome with the stock pickups, imo

In that case, I would get the Geezler Butler EMG PJ set, and then a more modern preamp like Aguilar or Darkglass.
You can also use an EMG preamp, but I always find them to be kinda boring
The Geezer sounds a bit more vintage and the J is more balanced. At least when I tried it out a few years ago

The Geezer's are passive but you can add a preamp if you like. The EMG PJAX set has Alnico magnets instead of ceramic so you can get that vintage/modern sound out of them also...I really like my PAX P pickup
As long as you add the Bass/Treble module controls you can control the tone much more...I recommend the BTC controls always with active EMG's

Yeah they are a bit brighter than the Geezers. Generally whenever I had a J Bridge Pickups, I never felt like I lacked brightness (especially not with a preamp, where you can boost the highs). I find the J Pickup in the Geezer more balanced with the P one, so I prefer that.
I recently bought a mint condition SR405EQM and absolutely love it! The neck profile, close string spacing and weight are straight up perfect!
Ordered some Bart 2j PUs and a Bart hr5.2ap harness which should arrive and be installed in the next month. Going to run each PU with a 3way switch as series/parallel/single coil.

I saw a Lobster review on YT where he swapped out stock PJ pickups & pre with this exact setup. Not sure which contributed more (leaning towards the DG preamp, since the Geezers are supposed to be a more vintage leaning pickup), but this combo brought quite a bit of top end. Too much for my tastes, YMMV.
This is why personally, I tend to shy away from preamps that are too aggressively voiced. If I want a major voice change for my instrument, I tend to change pickups first. But everyone's approach is different. Just saying this particular combo seemed a bit harsh sounding.
Forgive the non-Ibanez content:
No offense, but did you physically measure the stock pickups to make sure the Barts you ordered are going to fit? That would be a bummer.
For sure mate! The height is exactly the same size as the stock Ibanez PUs and the barts are 2mm shorter in width so no routing needed.
Agree the sound is too harsh here. However I don't really understand the upgrade here. I have never played a single Jackson that I didn't find to bright.
I don't know why it ended up so bright, but sometimes two otherwise well respective brands just don't go together as well as they should "in theory".
Not even saying the DG/Geezer combo will sound like this in every instrument, but I'm just a bit surprised it added that much top end. I think just the Geezers for starters would have been the safer move in this instance.
It is a snug fit, for sure.
I really like the EMG pre-amp, I also have the BTS in an old Ibanez 5-string (with EMG rip tide pickups).
They're plenty versatile for my needs, and I've no complaints with them, but I mostly stay in my lane with hard rock/"vintage-y" metal, so i can't say 100% it'll give you what you're looking for.
I would never upgrade everything at once. Upgrade the pickups then wait for a few months to stop the honeymoon period and then change it.
