the plate on the underside of the pure vintage pickup was large and didn't fit without routing on the inside - it didn't change anything on the outside front of the bass. the pickguard was a tight fit, but it did fit. the second pic shows the pickguard back on without having to mod it.

I bet it was a big difference from the stock PU. I know when I installed my Nordstrand Power Blade that it was a huge difference in tone and volume :bassist:

Yes, I'm very impressed that LaBella listened to customers and stepped up ! :woot: :cool:

I already had been buying their strings for my other scales of basses, partly due to their making 4 or 5 differently gauged sets of Deep Talking Flats in pretty much every length including short and medium scale.

Of course your initiative and negotiation skills contributed too, so thanks. :thumbsup:

all fender prices are going up, but $20 seems like a reasonable increase to me. besides, on holidays, sam ash will usually knock the price down even on the lower priced basses, so it's very possible one could get it then for less. i got my mini p for $149 thanks to sam ash sales.

the bronco went up from $149 to $199 this year. it actually went up more than the mini p. i'm guessing fender thinks $199 is a good price for entry level basses.

Early during this thread, IIRC we observed that the Mini-P cost a bit less than the Bronco, and marveled at how that could be, considering the decent value which they are for the price.

I've been tracking those two prices in Canada too, and the Mini-P had been $249 for most or all of its existence, while the Bronco was $279, each in CAD.

It looks like the Bronco price recently went down in Canada, and the Mini-P up, both to $259 now.

In Canada, the current Ibanez prices start slightly above these though, and the Jackson Minion notably lower.

During this past summer, I almost snagged a used Mini-P for $175 CAD, privately about an hour's drive away [a Kijiji listing], but someone else beat me to it, and the ad had only been up for 6 hours.

Not too many of them are showing up used so far, though I have seen a couple of others, at not as low a price, almost same as for new.

the bronco was priced at $149 here in the u.s. at every store i've visited or shopped at. every holiday, all 6 guitar centers we live near had it in store for $129, and i got mine for $124.49 from sam ash in 2019 after a discount (i just checked the receipt). i paid full price for my first bronco, but i don't have the receipt any longer (or can't find it), and that was 2016 or 2017.

yes, fender owns jackson. my husband has 2 jackson guitars (a V and a warrior), and when i was trying to source a case for one of them, i had to talk to fender.

I've sanded, stained, and finished the neck. Painted the headstock. Replaced the tuners with 3/8" hipshot ultralite tuners. I got a hipshot high mass bridge as a "drop in" replacement, which it kind of was. Screw hole spacing not exactly the same. My stock bridge came from the factory crooked so I had to plug holes and drill new ones. Currently wiring a new harness while waiting for my custom pickguard. That's about all I've got! No info on string spacing tho, as I am not home. I believe I've seen posts of string spacing somewhere on this thread before tho.

I'm mostly sure that the string spacing is standard 19mm. I changed out the bridge on my Mini P to a vintage Hipshot bridge and it was s drop in and it is 19mm spacing. The Gotoh 201 has 19mm string spacing & direct drop in and it is a nice inexpensive bridge :thumbsup:

I'm not sure about the Gretch but my buddy bought a Mini P at the same time I bought mine and he installed a Cosmo Black Gotoh 201 on his Mini P and was able to have the action medium low like he prefers :cool:
