I just sold a couple of basses and bought a couple of basses, and now my wife has done the math on what's behind that music room door. So I've posted my red mini-p on facebook marketplace with gig bag and two, count 'em, two unopened sets of short scale strings. This will help with the math and maintain some peace in our home. I've enjoyed this group and all of our interactions, but I may be leaving it soon if/when the bass sells. I listed it for $150 with the bag and two sets of strings, which I think is a good deal, but I feel like nobody's looking for one of these as most of us just kind of accidentally discovered how great they are. I reckon I shall create a post here in the classifieds while I'm at it.

I just looked up how much they are at Thomann and wow, they're... temptingly cheap. If I didn't already have a Glarry to be my travel who cares if it gets stolen or lost bass I'd really consider picking one up, I tried one out at [Big Box Guitar Store Everyone Hates] and really, really liked it...​

I'll probably get hammered for being off-topic, but while you're looking at Thomann consider Musicstore's J&D minis. As well as a P they have a 29" scale jazz bass - nice!

I'd love to have a matching CV 60s and Mini J... even if the specs on the mini are worse, that's fine, arguably desirable so it's cheaper.​

Made a 3d printable pickguard for the mini p.

Prints as two parts on a standard 256mm printer. I recommend increasing your shell layers until it prints as a solid piece, for the best finish. There is 1mm clearance between the parts to ensure fit, a tighter clearance could be dialed in if desired.

The full pickguard is also provided for larger printers or other manufacture methods, but has not been tested.

Shown here in iSanmate 'Skin' ASA I was using for prototyping- ended up really liking it on this bass, has a "smoker's patina" kind of look.

Originally set out to make this as I wanted to do a reverse P version... forgetting that the cavity isn't routed for that. Maybe I'll eventually get a router and figure out a template for modding that. If you have a router you want to get rid of, let me know..

Slowly making my way thru the over 200 pages here, but what's the state of roundwound strings for this bass in 2026?

Attempted putting on DR High Beam shortscales twice but the low string went dead & bell-like after a bit each time even with the proper bend during install, guessing maybe because the thick part of the string wraps onto the peg. My mistake trying it twice.

In my searching so far it seems like the bottom strings of the Ernie Ball 9-string Slinky guitar set are one of the only options, haven't heard any examples of how they sound as bass strings but might give them a go. Do you need washers at the ball-end or do they fit fine?

GHS Balanced Nickels seem evangelized for shortscales but the low string is still too long for the Mini P, though it seems some people have used them without issues- at least initially, not sure how they fared long term.

If anyone orders custom rounds for this bass what specs do you go with?

I have small hands & this is the most comfortable bass I've ever played, plus with the strings that aren't dead it sounds pretty great stock- so it'd be nice to find some strings that actually work for it.

I’ve ordered Newtone Hex core gauges: 049 069 089 109 (which I think is the same as the Labella mini P set. But not arrived yet ..
