TOS is good. The rest, nope.

When i watched the very first TNG episode (a two parter), I noticed there was not a weapon fired,
They fired several photon torpedoes intended to temporarily blind a persuing Q as they separated the saucer section.

For me, TNG = "Star Trek for women and metrosexuals".
What the hell does this mean? Between this and your comment about homosexuality being a perversion from another thread, you come off as quite the bigot, in my opinion.

Star Trek inspired the name of my newest puppy. His name is Locutus of Beagle.

They are not related. TNG was more about relationships. TOS was more about action and politics. Women look for different things in entertainment than men, generally speaking. That's why there are "chick films".:)

Have you ever read "Men are from Mars and Women are From Venus"? Some real eye opening stuff there. The information really helped me in my career - with both men and women.

Also, a bigot is not someone who holds certain viewpoints. A bigot is someone who holds those viewpoints strongly based on ignorance, or refuses to consider information that contradicts their position.

Neither of my dissimilar posts are bigoted. My opinions are based on information gleaned from research and are always open to change as new and reliable information avails itself.

This does not apply to your post, but I have found that most of the time, the one calling me a bigot is, in fact, the bigot in the conversation, based on the word's dictionary meaning.

I usually don't weigh in on these things but how is your opinion that TNG is for women and metrosexuals gleaned from research?
I watched the show. I read articles about it when it was in its first run. I observed the interactions of the characters, the plot lines, the solutions to problems presented in the stories. I watched the character development.

BTW, I loved the episode with the flute, where the captain lived an entire lifetime on another world while only a short time passed.

That's called an opinion and there really is no research you can do because it's subjective and not factual...Not worth arguing but you may want to try to not make comments that can be construed as misogynistic or bigoted.

On another note, I love that episode too!

Yes, it is an opinion. An opinion based on research. You don't need a grant to do research. :)

Regarding comments that sound bigoted, I find that usually that label is bandied about when attempting to slay the bigotry of others.

Regarding misogyny, simply pointing out the differences between men and women makes my comments neither misogynistic nor misandrist.

Star Trek in its first three iterations was steeped with moral and social messages. (TOS, TNG and DS9) I didn't follow the others. I dumped TV two decades ago.

In that regard, any show since 1969 that didn't involve guns blazing & some bravado must be horrible shows.
Depends on the Genre and intended audience.

I started noticing an interesting trend in television shows back in the mid-80's and it was confirmed in an article I read around the turn of the century. i can't speak for television in this century since I dumped TV in 1997, but TV "shows" were, by design, mostly targeting women. Not that TV execs didn't recognize the existence of men, but the primary demographic for shows was women. For men, it was sports and movies, and the latter often involved R or pg-13 ratings, which was not allowed on TV.

So yeah, guys tend to go for "The Expendables" type of stuff, and a lot of stuff blows up in those movies. Meanwhile, my wife and I both really enjoy Red and Red 2. They have the right mix of action and relationship stuff.

On a side note, have you ever noticed that the single parent sitcoms usually have a mother as the parent (at least that is how it was when I abandoned TV), but in the 1960's it was the opposite, and it started transitioning in the 70's. My Three Sons, The Courtship of Eddie's father, nanny and the professor, Family Affair, etc. We still have single dad ones (e.g. Two and a half men), but I've been away from TV now for a full generation, so I can't get into what's going on after the turn of the century with much accuracy.

That's the most idiotic comment I've ever read here. Seriously, you should rethink that. Seriously. No, seriously. Please get over whatever is wrong that made you type that. Don't defend it. FIX IT. Seriously. No, seriously.

Unrelated:
I watched an hour of Star Trek Beyond. I have never hated a film as much as that one. Just a dumb, dumb movie. Not as dumb as the above quoted comment, but almost. Star Trek for unimaginative audiences who like watching stuff explode.

That's a new one. Demanding someone change their opinion rather than defend it. Why don't you defend the contrary? I think it's an idiotic comment too but I'd rather hear a defense than an "okay I take it back."

It's just an opinion, based on watching maybe 20 episodes. I stick to it.

Now, it may have changed, eventually. I couldn't tell you since I stopped watching it. I was a star trek fanatic and stuck with that show a lot longer than I should have.
