I knew going in that Section 31 has received some brutally negative reviews. But I tried it anyway. Somehow, not sure how, I made it all the way through. It's bad but maybe not that bad. I didn't hate it.

I am not so much making a claim about objective reality, as stating what my sanity demands never have existed.

I get it. For me, everything excluding The Original Series, The Animated Series, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, and the 6 original cast movies are not Star Trek.

Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, Nemesis, JJ Trek 1, 2, 3, Discovery, Strange New Worlds (the best of the worst but still not good), and the cartoons..... None of it is canon. I refuse. The last time I saw Picard and the gang was in All Good Things, playing poker with his crew.

Compared to the crap trek, Tom Paris turning into a salamander is brilliant.

What about that Youtube series with original storyline and sets/ uniforms/characters?

The casting of Kirk and Spock was really hard for me to swallow, but I loved everything else about it...especially the music ...and the ship...lighting....etc

Also newly-revealed today is the fact that Paramount plans to release the disastrous made-for-streaming movie Star Trek: Section 31 on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and 4K Steelbook format in the coming months. Street date is TBA, but look for it sometime in Q2. What chaps my ass about this is the fact that Secret Hideout probably spent the extra money to film and finish this dreck in actual 4K, while the endlessly superior Picard: Season 3 was finished in 2K only. But you know what: I’d much rather buy that on 4K UHD, because it still features 12-bit color and a Dolby Vision HDR grade (and that information comes directly from Terry Matalas), so upsampled it should look fantastic.

At this point, I actually hope that Section 31 kills this franchise for a while. Star Trek needs a break, and a real reset with a new direction and new creative guidance—people that embrace its roots and legacy of inspiration, not those who seek to turn it into glossy and grimdark space opera or to reinvent it to be more like every other bubble gum space franchise. Star Trek should be additive, not atomized and fractured. Let it lean into its strengths, and be what it was always meant to be... the optimism that humanity needs now more than ever. Let Star Trek be Star Trek.

If I do look, I will point and laugh ruefully, and continue with my shopping.

At this point, I actually hope that Section 31 kills this franchise for a while.

As far as I'm concerned, both Star Trek and Star Wars died ignominious deaths, twitching their last covered in festering sores and a putrid stench in a dank pop-cultural sewer, when a Hollywood cabal with more cocaine than brains decided JJ Abrams was the answer to every single "sci-fi" question anyone could ever ask. The invisible flush handle was pressed right there and then, with the swirl around the bowl spanning a decade and a half, finally - nay, hopefully - reaching its chaotic, gurgling conclusion at the bottom with this latest mess. May it all disappear swiftly, with a nary a hint of a clog to keep it lingering around any longer than necessary. I'm sick to death of being offered the stench of these noisy turds as a "legacy" of the original.

I'm not a rose-lens, backward-gazing idealist; TOS, TNG, VOY et al were not 100% perfect by any means, but even with the occasional foible or blunder, they were still better than anything in the "reboot" era.

A lot of real Star Trek wasn't in line with Roddenberry's original vision. Not quite like this dreck, but he never wanted interpersonal conflict between Federation members. He never wanted religion (DS9 went hard at it). I've read a lot of his wacky ideas had to be reigned in by other writers during TOS and it never would've been as great as it was if he had full creative control.

The problem with Alex Kurtzman's version of Star Trek is that Alex Kurtzman is ****. He has garbage ideas and executes them poorly. He's the problem. Him and Orci and everyone else involved since the first episode of Discovery. A pox on all their houses for a thousand generations.
