Some comics seem to have really interesting and creative stories but I don’t like reading them. I’ve tried various comics and graphic novels and I can’t get into a story in that format.

The Star Treks

Over the years my taste in the series has changed. I grew up watching TOS in reruns and saw TNG when the show originally aired. I loved them both. TOS on rewatching has actually held up better than I would have thought. TNG has not. I remembered it being far better than it is on rewatching. The first few seasons are painful to watch now, and the whole of TNG is uneven with occasionally good episodes and some stinkers throughout. I was not originally a fan of any of the three Trek series that followed, but have actually come to love Voyager, Enterprise, and especially Deep Space Nine. The newer Treks are a mixed bag. can't stand the new animated series, but Picard was good enough. Discovery is really bad for the first two seasons, but somewhat redeemed in the third season.
I rematched TOS streaming (It was available in Canada on more than one platform--and though some episodes I knew real well, it was great watching them again.
Even though some I have seen many. many times--I gained a new appreciation of them-even some of the lesser episodes.
However I could barely make it through The Way to Eden--my least favourite TOS episode

I wonder if he does any secret millionaire stuff to stay alive. He’s pretty sharp for a 90 year old chunky man. Or it could be genetics and healthy living.

When i saw him on one of his road tours a couple years ago, he was sharp as the proverbial tack. He was pacing back and forth across the stage telling his stories and very animated. He maintained his claim that he's never watched Wrath Of Khan in its entirety.

I suspect it's a combination of all of the above, and a determination to stay busy no matter what. He never quits.
I agree about Deep Space Nine. I have rewatched some of these recently and they continue to entertain. Some of the science fiction concepts are pretty smart and there is big range of variety among the various characters which create lots of avenues for dramatic opportunities for the writers and lots of conflict since they are usually at odds with either the outside threat or each other's self interests, or both at the same time. I think it's a great concept and of course the Ferengi are always there to add a touch of comic relief. I like and respect Sisko but he is at times played with an almost Shakespearean gravitas. Perhaps it's necessary for him to be the calm in the eye of the storm, and he is certainly a man you would like to have in charge, but his personality comes off as a bit affected to me.
I’ve never met the man but from the interviews I’ve seen, it’s all him. He’s flamboyant and theatrical and goofy.
That's what I was going to say. He seems more 'believable' as Sisko. He's downright odd in interviews.
I have, and always will be ... a fan. Yes I'm still watching TOS reruns, and seen them maybe 50+ times.
I really wish the Motion Picture would have been a epic adventure using "Balance of Terror" as the plot rather than the Voyager probe story. I think one of the best parts was when Scotty took Kirk around the Enterprise in the small shuttle. They made it look so BIG, and real looking - I was almost tearing up seeing that magnificent starship up close!

Balance of Terror is in my top 5 favorite episodes. It's a shame they didn't explore more fully that new Roman weapon, and indeed, the Romulans themselves, who were great adversaries. And I agree, the Motion Picture would have been great with that episode as the plot. Though The Changeling was another great TOS episode.
We have been watching TOS pretty much every night for the past couple of years. They have been a comfort during these challenging times, with the pandemic and all. I too must have seen each episode 50+ times. It may be closer to 100. Truly, they never get old for me.
So who should we treat people who don't like Star Trek?

I can count on one hand the number of people I know or have met that like Star Trek. It just doesn't appeal to the masses.
Completely the opposite when I was a child and our whole family would watch the reruns of TOS in the 70s ...Everyone on my street watched it...and all the kids would talk about the last episode at school the next day...
TV comics would make jokes about Star Trek and impersonate the main characters....spoofs and skits on TV

It was a different time. Its impact on the world was bigger. I grew up in the 90s. TNG, DS9 and Voyager were all on tv and no one cared. None of my friends watched it. As far as I knew it was just me and my dad.

I barely remember most of TOS when it first aired. I do still have a vivid recollection of being scared to death watching "The Devil in the Dark". I have since watched most everything related but I am challenged by a wife who can't stand Shatner!
