I am enjoying Star Trek: Strange New Worlds very much! It captures the spirit of the original pretty well.

(But since I'm not concerned about the titles, I had to correct the series title twice.)

About all I know about the series is:

• The original series
• The one with Picard and Seven of Nine
• The new one with Anson Mount

Aside from that, I don't really care.

Seven of those shows are great. Lizzo wasn't in any of them. Space battles didn't involve tens of thousands of fighter shuttles. Good stuff.

We don't have the streaming service to watch Strange New Worlds. Amazon Prime showed the very first episode for free, wife and I enjoyed it. We grew up on the original series.

I don't have a problem with a serious show or movie throwing out a fun musical interlude. After all, all we watch is just entertainment.

So I pulled up some YouTube clips of the musical episode and thoroughly enjoyed what I saw. Very cool of the folk involved to do that. On the other hand, my wife didn't like the clips I showed at all LOL.

The first time we got caught off-guard with a musical interlude during a serious show was American Horror Story: Asylum. We loved (most, not all) seasons of that series. In the dark horror of the insane asylum, a musical interlude gets thrown in due to a patient's (played by Jessica Lange) mind fracturing. FWIW, we both loved it.:



Since I can't watch SNW, was the majority of the episode a musical, or just a few minutes?

We watched the latest SNW episode last night, referred to as "Star Trek, The Musical". You know, for a bunch of musicians, I'm surprised there isn't more love for this episode.

I liked it. I don't know if it's an episode that will stand up to many viewings, but I enjoyed the music, and was surprised how good everyone's voices are. I was a little disappointed with the finale - I thought they could have come up with a stronger song, but the music was well written and arranged for the most part.

Disclosure: I like musicals, and as a youth, partook in many local/amateur theatre groups performing musicals.

I came in ready to hate it.

Well written and executed.

I think autopitch was liberally imemented on the vocals, but very impressed seeing the choreography and absolute 'tickled to be doing this' smiles on their faces.

I enjoy musicals amd was lucky to be on stage for a few in college. Really bold swings on this show! I know Canon purists hate it, but I'm enjoying it. The writers seem to be simultaneously writing a love letter to fans like me, and a sincere apology for the (expletive deleted) that is STD.

I like a well executed choreographed song and dance number. But not on a space ship. Was it really happening within the context of the show or was it some mass hallucination or wacky subspace radiation thing?

It was the wacky subspace radiation thing. Yes, that part was a little weak, but if you could overlook the reason, the show was enjoyable.

The framing device was risible. They simply don't have serious SF writers in the room anymore. I hope they call themselves "the Explain Away Team".*

I saw one comment from someone who liked i and pointed out episodes with musical content, and was wondering why there were people who hated it--but there is a difference between a show with musical content and a musical.

I haven't seen the SNW episode--so can't comment directly on it.

I learned after the episode aired, there were several shout outs to another show that did this year's ago and did it well.

The "Bunny" reference went right over my head.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (never saw it) did an entire episode as a musical, it too, was roundly applauded.

Ok, watched the musical. I liked it ok but plan to rewatch it in one hit as the first view was undertaken in fits and starts.

I was surprised to find an Ep 10 (I don’t know why I was surprised) and really liked it but of course…. The dreaded ‘to be continued’.

There are moments on TV that are universally remembered as being "I can't believe they just did that!"

It seems to me that Part 1 of the STTNG episode "The Best Of Both Worlds" was one such instance. It aired on June 18th, 1990, and ended on the cliffhanger, and then we had to wait until September 24th for Part 2.

I remember watching Part 1 with several friends (we'd get together every week specifically to watch TNG together) and when Picard made his entrance as Locutus of Borg, only to end with "to be continued . . . ", we were all just gobsmacked. I believe our collective reaction was "Are you *** kidding me?!"

It's one thing to make your fans wait a week for resolution, but three months seemed a bit sadistic.

You have to give the producers credit, though. Everybody who had any interest in ST, whatsoever, was glued to their TV sets for Part 2.

Can’t believe SNW S2 is finished. Nice cliffhanger. Season overall was very good.

With the writer & actor strike, S3 might be a long wait.
