The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

And PMLE is sold out. How many weeks before people start asking Nathan to build more :)
Nathan will tell everyone to buy Venus Z. It's not even that much bigger, and gives you bypass options and an HPF.

Haha love it. Like many I’d been so close to buying the Venus…the limited PMLE made me buy without the usual internal debate…but I’ve gotten so attached to the HPF on the finally and now the NP that this may end up being a gateway pedal to the Venus for me!

Ah, a post by that other Nathan from the marketing department! ;)

Personally, I'd like to see a Venus Z with that PMLE finish... but that's just me, I guess.
Technically, your reasoning is fully understandable.

On that note, to anyone that's been on the fence, you can use coupon code permylastemail for 15% off Venus Z for the rest of the month.

I like the look of the finish, that's why I got a guitar with the same finish, but my biggest complaint is how it takes fingerprints. I really like my usual matte silver finish because I don't have to worry about wiping the smudges off the enclosure before packaging it. Each PMLE was carefully wiped down after the build to get smudges and fingerprints off, which took extra time. The glossy enclosures are also unfortunately easier to scratch, so I had to take extra steps in cleaning off my workbench to make sure nothing would scratch the enclosures.

Everything I do is handmade by me in my basement, but my goal is that you shouldn't be able to look at it and say "that was made by some dude in his basement".

So it's really the "Per My Last Fingerprint":smug:

Google already came up with the name for your next pedal, no idea why it fudged the name.

Dirty Magic is the name of the finish on that one, it's a nice glossy purple with blue sparkles. The Diplomat is a project for DIY builders and is based on the EF86 channel of the Matchless DC30, my favorite guitar amp. The circuit board for that one is available through Conspiracy to Commit Electronics, one of my "does-business-as" entities under the Sushi Box umbrella.

That picture came from the Conspiracy to Commit Electronics Reverb shop, which is where used, refurbished, and one-off Sushi Box pedals end up (along with other stuff) when I clean out my workshop. That particular unit sold about 8 hours ago though.

Ah I missed that was the name of the finish, funny it pulled that. I may have been the one that bought it 😉

I’ve always wondered if you’ve ever considered combining a soft clipping opamp or led circuit into one of the sushi drive pedals? Kind of like germanium transistors in the Tarantula but for drive instead of fuzz.

I find driving the preamp tube circuits in the UA/Finally do ok with a tiny bit of clipping, but get fart-y pretty quick after that compared to the other options I’ve mentioned.

I find running a traditional opamp/led circuit drive into sushi pedal to be my ideal sound so I guess I’m just hoping it could be combined.

Either way I continue to love and be impressed with your products and business.

Congrats on those that got the PMLE!

I was on the fence about getting one of the last few, but ended up snagging a used Venus X last night since I wanted a gain knob (if the PMLE had one, I would've bought it straight away, like I said before). Should be sweet!

btw, is the high mid knob on the PMLE actually different, or is it just some special sauce people are hearing?

I thought about not having a gain knob, but the way I look at it is that since EQ is boost & cut, if you want more/less gain, you just have to turn four knobs instead of one?... ;)

Same. I’ve already bugged Nathan for a version with no D.I., an on/off foot switch and a gain knob like his other preamps. Until then (likely won’t ever happen), I’ll continue to use my Venus Z.

I was about to say they're the exact same frequency point, but I think I remember bumping it a little on PMLE, I'll double check.
