That's quite a heavy duty board right there! That MBD-1 in particular... Quite a nice piece! :thumbsup::cool:

Interesting. I do really like my Slampegg as well, but I've never tried an Alembic tone stack so I'm curious as to how they compare. Do you think there's a noticeable difference in sound between the two?

The Deep Dish is on the list of course, but so is that new Empress comp... Would you keep the Empress if you weren't getting the Dish?

Other than that, I'm curious about the London Underground and I did like the extended demo of the Wattson earlier in the thread quite a bit.

OK, I spoke with Nathan via chat about X vs. Reg and I'm upgrading to the X on my Slampegg mainly for the ease of tube replacement in the future and that it runs cooler. I'm in Florida where the stages remain hot and it may pay off not to have all the extra heat raising up on the stage, lol

Plus like Nathan said, he loves rolling tubes, so I might get a new hobby out of this too.

That MDB-1 is actually a 2 in a 1 enclosure. I love that thing!

The PA is definitely different and worth a shot. I’d probably get an LU if I was to try an Alembic/Fender tone stack again. Just for a different flavor.

I would probably keep the Empress Bass Comp but I’m not even using it right now because of the factory defect (clicking & static) in every unit.

I like the two clips with gain at 9. Sounds great to me! Can’t wait to get my PA X in the next build!

I say we start a new trend: Front jacks. That's right, power and input jacks on the FRONT of the pedal. Zero wasted space around the pedals, maximum efficiency.

Yeah, but then it'd end up like tech companies with too many standards: pedaltrain rail spacing, temple audio hole spacing, pedalpad custom spacing, etc; at least on front there's no alignment issues.
Unless all pedals went to a new enclosure format that had a sunken area on the bottom plate for the jacks and cables to run through/in. Thatd be totally sweet.
@Sushi Box FX if you can start buying blocks of solid aluminum and custom milling with your fancy new CNC some bottom plates with this feature (while staying in our $5 1590a pedal limit), that'd be great. :roflmao:

I have to agree with everyone here. This is the first time I've commissioned a pedal build and he has been super easy and patient with me. Got my change in last night and looking forward to the final product. I have a great feeling that it will be the star of my pedal board and will soon have other brethren on there from SBFX!


Looking forward to when the merch comes out too, lol

Thanks for doing that. It sounds like the signal chain and recording setup changed quite a bit. The X is brighter and has more gain and upper mid content. The small tube is muffled by comparison, has less gain, and has way more low end. If nothing has changed in the recording chain I'm shocked how much of a difference a single tube can make.


Edit: just compared the PAs too and it's the same thing. Is there a mic and cab involved in the small tube clips?

So honestly I haven't listened to them A/B, are they that different? :P the chain has been the same for everything, I have the riff recorded on my looper and it goes looper -> preamp -> two notes cab m+ -> interface, nothing should have changed. I make sure I use the same IR patch on the cab m, so it should be consistent. I make sure to record a bypass clip every time I do a demo, do the bypass clips sound different?

Also in retrospect I probably should have used a JJ/Tesla tube in the Slampegg X so you hear a "stock" model, this one has a vintage RCA tube in it :P
