The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Wow - random drop after 12 am of several high demand items - where have I seen that before ???? ...LOL ! And mostly gone by now - apparently , it pays to be a Noble Night Owl with extra dollars burning a hole in your pocket . Ah well - at least , I can live vicariously until Uncle Sam springs some funds my way . Who knows what goodies will be around then ..... Kelly

The second hand price of Noble made me check the new price. My goodness.

Not saying the retail price is unfair for the quality and work involved, but it's eye-watering nevertheless.
If you think that's crazy, you should check the used prices in the classifieds :greedy: last one I think went for over $1200
Someone got a killer deal here with zero wait time

FWIW, I’m running my Interstellar Overdrive with a 12AU7 tube and use it most for tubey clean tones. Ironically, I’ve never much cared for the overdrive tone. I also had a switch put in to defeat the Aural Enhancer circuit. I like it both ways for different stuff, so having the switch is great. Unfortunately switching the AE out also boosts the level like crazy, so needs a bit of adjusting to flip back and forth.

I also think it would be better with the master volume or maybe a boost or something in front of the power tubes, so you can control the power amp saturation independently from the preamp gain.

So despite the three tubes there is actually a lot of solid state stuff going on in the drive section, and TL072 doesn't overdrive as nicely as 12AX7 in my opinion :P but the way they did the power section is not hard to cut out and stick in with a different preamp, and that's what I would be more likely to do rather than cloning the whole unit. I don't think it will end up in the same box as my IR (for now at least) because it will be big and power hungry, but I'm definitely going to be playing with it.

If you have any questions, or even want to borrow mine for a time, I’m sure certain ... arrangements... could be made ;)

Good to know I appreciate it :) this will most likely be something I work on in spring or so, I will definitely let you know when I'm working on it.

Wow this thread moves fast.

I was trying to find the section about the X-Series. Does the X sound any different than the normal one? If so, how much so?

Thanks
They sound a little different on account of using a tube with about 25% more gain, but still not super different. PA X is the only one I have recordings of so far, they're on soundcloud, I'll grab the links when I'm back at the computer tonight.

Ah good to know. I have a spot for a Slampegg that I think will be built in Jan. for Feb delivery now? Was Feb for March Delivery, so I was wondering if switching to X would be wise for replacing the tube down the road if the need ever arises.

I have my Slampegg X and can get some quick recordings posted tonight after the kids are in bed.

I'll look forward to hearing recordings of both! I'm in the March builds that got moved to February and it seems like that might be a little soon for the Westinghouse to be ready, so I'm thinking about options.

Unfortunately, my Slampegg X doesn’t arrive until Saturday or Monday.

If I remember right, that means you'll then have the trifecta, yeah? Slampegg, Slampegg X and a Particle Accelerator? (Like @munkeyfish said, this thread moves pretty fast... correct me if I'm wrong). I'll be interested to hear your comparison of the three. I'm wondering if a PAx would be a nice compliment to my Slampegg for something with a different flavor/less color? (aka cleaner and less "ampeg-y"). It'd be nice to have both options!

Deep Dish or Particle Accelerator X? Hmmmmmmmm. lol

5sg.

I think he sold his PA and got a broughton Fliptop. Different sort of trifecta i suppose

I got rid of the PA. I decided to get rid of everything with an Alembic/Fender tone stack. They are just not my cup of tea. The Slampegg nails the tone I want anyways.

I’m putting the Deep Dish (January build) up top in between the Archetype and Strobostomp while the Empress Bass Comp may go bye bye. I’ll also be putting the Lab Ray X (January build) in between the Solarian and Sunray.

Here’s my board at the moment:

I don't think you have enough preamps
