Yeah I think I'll still have the artist do the occasional job for special stuff like Fluffy Kitten, but the overwhelming feedback I got was that my pedals do very much have a "look", and that I should stick with that look.

Since Mr Box seems to be a regular participant in this here thread, I was wondering whether this might also be the place to offer wishes?
If you did a version of the Finally with a HPF and a LPF included, and maybe even a parametric one band EQ with three knobs (Frequency (100Hz - 5kHz) Q (from normal to REALLY wide) and Boost/cut (15dB), I'd be all over it.
This would be the very most awesomest end of chain box one could imagine.
Along with the golden tuner with top mounted jacks that plays the 8 bit Jeopardy theme while tuning, you could simply send over the invoice as soon as you're ready. No need to ask or confirm. I want one.

I'm not planning to modify Finally, the plan is to keep that as the simple, no-frills DI. I am working on a more complicated DI unit that will have a lot more tone shaping options, and that will be separate from Finally.
Ah, there's a blast from the past. That was a custom one-off I did years ago, it was a two channel JCM-800 preamp with 6N21B. The customer wanted it always on so instead of going bypass/on it went clean channel/dirty channel. It sounded pretty good. If he's selling it for $100 + shipping I must not have charged him very much for it.
Edit: looking at it more I remembered what I didn't like. Both channels sounded excellent, but they were different enough that a shared tone stack wasn't very useful, you really had to tweak the EQ every time you changed channels to get back to a usable tone. I went with the shared tone stack because the customer wanted it to fit on his pedalboard, and otherwise he would have ended up with something more Smoke Signal sized.
If it sounds as good as this it’s a steal. JC Emerald is my favorite piece of nigiri on my sushi boat.
So this came today. I ordered it tubeless as I have a bunch of 12**** tubes laying around. I put a "regular" 12ax7 on the left (when looking at it from the back) and a high gain+ JJ on the right and it smokes. Plenty of solid clean gain and nice breakup that gets very gritty.
This is my first time trying a preamp based on a HiWatt and so far I really like it.
I'm not much a tube roller, but since I have a bunch sitting here, I think I'm going to try a few. What have you guys tried? What's the recommendation? I'm also thinking about my PA and upcoming Smoke Signal ...
I'm liking the mix of my regular and ultra high gain tubes. I'm going to try a lower gain 12au7 in tandem with the hg+.
Edit: there is a really, really nice harmonic breakup right before it begins to OD. Frikkin' sweet.

Left is V1, right is V2, in case you get curious about what effect each position has. In a lot of preamps, DWX included, I would expect V1 to have a more dramatic effect on the overall tone.
As for tube recommendations, everything on my board uses NOS tubes because I'm spoiled. Mullard and Amperex are my favorites, Tung-Sol a close runner-up. I also have some British-made GE tubes that sound excellent.
For modern production tubes I like JJ/Tesla for a mid-range punchy sound and Sovtek or Tung-Sol for more warmth and grit. Sino and other Chinese tubes are generally a bit bright for my ears, but they also have their use when they're in the right place.

I may have mentioned this before, but I used to work for GE and a friend of mine has 100's of GE NOS tubes sitting in boxes in his office in Albany. Literally hundreds just sitting there. He doesn't want to give up his decorations.

it looked a lot more dramatic then it was... a bit of stuffing might have helped, but they must have really walloped the box to get it that bent. Thank you for the beautiful pedals Sushi san!
