Quick question: on a hypothetical pedal* with two footswitches, bypass and channel, which footswitch should be on the left and which on the right?

*any resemblance to any real pedal, living or dead, is coincidence and unintentional

I'm used to engage on the left, and option on the right. I don't know why, as input right / output left seems backwards to me as far as I/O goes but yeah.. I engage mostly with my left leg and I don't like crossing over another button to engage my pedal as that would change my option upon being active

Personally, I'd prefer bypass on the right, channel on the left - and that's the way all 3 of the dual footswitch pedals I have now work.....but I'm sure there are examples of the other way too.

Those that I have played with and have had good luck has bypass on the right and channel select or *other option* on the left....

I think all dual switch pedals that had bypass / something else mapped on them had the bypass on the right.
I would not mind if it was the other way round. If it was a preamp / OD pedal, where the plan would be to have the preamp always on (or at least running through the entire song) and the OD being kicked in somewhere when the song asks for it, I'd be more comfy hitting the right button.

The hypothetical pedal in question is a preamp, though for now it's just a proof of concept. I was contacted last week by a big-name bassist about doing a custom build, and if it turns out as cool as we both think it will then I'll keep it in the lineup as a standard offering. I don't have all the details yet as the pedal only exists on paper, but it's a solid-state preamp with speaker emulation, and the final version will also have a Lightning Boy D.I. output.

I'm starting with just the preamp to make sure everything works and is useful, then anything that isn't needed will get taken off, and anything that's missing will get added. So it will probably be at least two rounds of prototype before a final product. He said he isn't in any hurry, but I've set the personal goal to have it ready to go by Christmas.

So that's where most of my R&D energy will be going for the next couple months.

Alright, so here's my plans for the next few days:

• box up a Sashimi Fuzz with the new artwork (just came off the printer a few minutes ago)
• record a demo of Sashimi
• finish building the first batch (qty 9) of Fluffy Kittens
• get organized for the October batch
• open ordering for Fluffy Kitten
• open ordering for November (with Sashimi and Smoke Signal included as options)
• keep working on the currently nameless preamp design while I wait for October parts to come in
