The Finally will join my collection of DI boxes, my first was an MXR NG/LD active DI purchased in 1978 that I still have - box and all. I have a bunch of DI boxes passive and active from my daze at SHOWCO and from other touring as well as my times as a retail tramp, some with a story like the Dietz box with a vintage Jensen that JD made me for supplying a "great buzz" one evening, or the engraved Countryman Type 85 I got as a reward for selling 100, engraved so my boss couldn't sell the comp, or the RNDI gifted from a dear friend. Finally will be in my recording desk set up since I don't expect to do much live work any more. It will be replacing an ART Tube MP that I only used occasionally and the power supply recently died, it was probably 20 years old anyway.I don't even have a smoke signal on order, but I already ordered red and blue knobs for when I do
Is the Finally going to try and replace another DI on your board? I've got a JDI, Countryman, IMP, and CabM+ I'm going to put it up against and see who stays as my primary; (I rarely use the extra stuff on the M+, they really missed the boat for me by not giving it MIDI)
What a pal! I'll gladly not take that offer with my white full color smoke signal. I can't stop thinking about how freaking sweet it's going to sound through my genzler....my guess is that at least five of the six people that got a Smoke Signal in the very first run are reading this thread.
I just wanted to offer to any one of you that should you desperately need your cash back, or should you find out that your SO will kick you out of the house should another of those darn pedals arrive or maybe you've decided to quit smoking and don't want anything smoke related near you in the future or have another reason entirely ... should you want to back out of the Smoke Signal order, I'd graciously step in and take your spot. Even if you did not order the pedal in Rainbow's End w/ simple graphics![]()
But have you ordered your red and blue knobs yetWhat a pal! I'll gladly not take that offer with my white full color smoke signal. I can't stop thinking about how freaking sweet it's going to sound through my genzler.
You've got me there! I may go with orange and black. I'll determine that when it arrivesBut have you ordered your red and blue knobs yet![]()
I will warn you: the orange magpie knobs (same style/metal ones it ships with) are absolutely horrible. Do not let any of the websites fool you. You've got me there! I may go with orange and black. I'll determine that when it arrives
Man they look a lot more orange on an orange backdrop, that's an awesome looking LU!
Oh wow, thank you for the heads upI will warn you: the orange magpie knobs (same style/metal ones it ships with) are absolutely horrible. Do not let any of the websites fool you.
I've ordered them, and so has Nathan. How they call that Orange is beyond me, it's more of a weak not-quite-copper that you'd never mistake for orange.
Here's my cheeto-knob comparison photo!

I see LMS actually changed the color label itself to Copper now; totally wish we could get a real orange as vibrant/true as the other colors:Oh wow, thank you for the heads up
Actually you and another friend that build pedals both warned me about them so I never even gave them a shot. I am ordering a handful to go on Fluffy Kittens though, because rainbowz 4 life.I will warn you: the orange magpie knobs (same style/metal ones it ships with) are absolutely horrible. Awesome! I'll be interested to see if they've changed in recent batches. Obviously enough people said something they changed the color nameI am ordering a handful to go on Fluffy Kittens though, because rainbowz 4 life.
Well I'm actually not getting them from BLMS anymore since I found a place with a better bulk discount, and they still call them "orange." We'll see.Awesome! I'll be interested to see if they've changed in recent batches. Obviously enough people said something they changed the color name![]()
Where's a good place to buy tubes online these days? Asking for a friend. I'm aware of the usual spots like tube depot, tube amp doctor, etc...Actually you and another friend that build pedals both warned me about them so I never even gave them a shot. Just for fun I placed ALL of my parts orders on the same day, so it's always fun to see who gets here first. I have parts coming from the following places:
- Arizona (tubes and tube-related parts, jacks, knobs)
- Texas (miscellaneous electronic components)
- Michigan (pots, switches)
- Thailand (one specific value of capacitor, header pins)
I get mine from CE Distribution, which is the wholesale arm of Amplifiedparts, Antique Electronic Supply, etc. I've been looking into getting them direct from JJ/Tesla, but haven't found a contact to do so yet. But CE Distribution gets me a small discount up front and a bigger discount when I buy in bulk (which I always do) so I save a little bit over buying them elsewhere. Amplifiedparts has a good selection at fair prices, and they also offer Apex matching on power tube sets, which is nice.Where's a good place to buy tubes online these days? Asking for a friend.
