Do yourself a favor, google "EF86 tube preamp pedal", and note how many different manufacturers make them. As stated before in this thread, "N.O." is not the first to "invent" the concept of the EF86 pedal, and I'm sure some part of his pcb design was influenced by someone else's pcb that had been done prior to the "invention" of the Edison. Depending on how far down the rabbit hole you'd like to take this, perhaps Paul Eisler, who invented printed circuit boards in 1936, should be sending out nasty letters to anyone who bought a product built around a PCB?

I'm sure there are tons of EF86 or 806 pedals. The line is where is it described as a clone of an existing pedal.

We (Southampton Pedals) cloned the long dead Designer Submarine. But it wasn't in production and was impossible to find and we tried to find the original designer to give him a cut , and when we couldn't we donated money to charity.

Cloning any existing pedal is an ethical issue. Especially small builders that have small margins to begin with.

I'm all for expanding on designs or cloning pedals that don't exist, but cloning a current production pedal is questionable.

I’m running into my Rumble 500c. Every other amp I have is either all tube or hybrid. It does the Fender Justice. I am now running a UA in place of the PAX.

To those with a Slampegg,

With the gain set high, does it get into overdrive territory? Or more of a "warmth and harmonic richness" tone?

I would have a hard time choosing one or the other between those two definitions. It barely hits overdrive for me w/ 9v active bass, and I'd be more apt to call it nice harmonics.
I feel it gets about as dirty as a cranked Space Heater when I played them back and forth.
Dr. Wattson X gets dirtier and into that overdrive territory way more.
For a 1590B pedal though, I'm surprised how much I enjoy Black Eye X on my bass. It definitely is a distortion pedal, but I can back the gain off enough to make it 98% clean, so it has a nice range of options.

*Edit: FYI we did add categories to the pedals on the site, and if a pedal fits in multiple, it got added to multiple; so if you're looking for overdrive, that is one of the categories now! I made Sushi finally categorize everything

I will say Slampegg is my favorite pedal I have currently, and usually the first pedal I recommend to someone anymore.
I like my Slampegg even more with a 5751 tube in it, can't put a finger to it but I like the sound more.
We'll see if the UA can dethrone it

I've got a Raw+Simple UA, and Raw+Simple SBVT.

I've lost count, but at some point I need to hook every SB pedal I have upto my bench power supply and turn it all on at once to see what it draws

Speaking of. So is the October build the updated space heater? I forget exactly what the updates are for all the pedals but The new one maybe has a trim pot so the output volume can be a little less? Or am I way off base there I’m not sure? I know these were covered in the thread somewhere but I don’t remember…

I love my Spacehouse! Nathan, you're not getting either of mine back. I'm tempted with the attenuation option, but I'm not going to mess with a good thing right now.

GK Plex preamp. (my band has gone ampless- with a split snake and our own IEM setup). It's not necessarily my favorite- the overdrive is meh and the compressor is... functional. I rarely use the OD and almost never use the compressor.

But the EQ is nice, the tuner/mute works, the amp modeling is pretty good, it's quiet, and I can use it for both practice (aux in and headphone amp) as well as rehearsal and gigs. The Spaceheater into the Westinghouse really add the tubiness that is missing- and I can get GREAT sound with it in a band mix. 95% of the awesome sound for 10% of the work!

Marshall JCM800 Superbass and Orange 4 Stroke are my main amps lately. My Musicman 100B amp doesn't like pedals as much as the other 2 amps. 3 more SB pedals on the way...
