The November dealer's choice paint job is very attractive!
That colour is awesome! It makes me sad that I missed out on a HW Elementary for November. I'll just have to wait and see what December brings.
At the risk of giving away all my secrets, I'm considering keeping this finish (it's called "prismatic cosmos" for anyone wondering) as an option aside from whatever dealer's choice option I pick for the month. So the choices will be raw/full color, raw/simple, prismatic cosmos, and dealer's choice.
Unless I find some convincing argument why I shouldn't, that's what I intend to do.
As much as customers are charmed by custom options, earlier you said you wanted to streamline the process in order to spent more time on other stuff. Why bother with a new finish every month? The latest new finish looks like a hit, so I'd just stick with the 2 raw options and the sparkle and call it a day. One less thing to worry about and more time for developing new pedals.
This makes me want to see the full hieroglyph art printed over it.
So the eventual goal is for all SMD pedals to have zero options, they'll just be pre-built and in stock. HW will be the only things that are custom, and I want to bring back some of the options I used to have, like more finish options and more knob colors. I WANTED TO TRY THAT SO BAD. But with color powdercoats I only get one shot at the print, if I mess it up I have to sand down the box and re-powdercoat it, so I was afraid of having to do that in case it didn't come out cool.
I wanted to encourage him to go even more holographic and do a run of Prismatic Universe, but I don't think he'd want to have to do an additional coating step.
You could do a test print on something that would be easy to sand down, like the back/lid of a pedal... but then you'd basically be committing yourself to have to sand down that particular piece of metal...
Yeah I could do a scrap piece so I don't have to sand, but then I would have to powdercoat a scrap piece to get a representative background.
With the shift toward the simpler full color artwork I've started thinking it would be cool to start printing them in white against the colored powdercoats like these, but I haven't committed to it yet.
So I have officially cleared up a spot on my board and am really looking forward to when Furthermore is released. The empty space had me looking for something to fill the gap, then I remember saying I was happy with Finally, and now I want to be even happier. Here's hoping I can leave an open space on my board until that gets released.....
Anytime anyone says they want a D.I. added to a circuit I always have to point out how much room the D.I. transformer and XLR jack take up, but SBVT may actually be possible. Since it has 3 tubes it has to go into the largest box, but where it's still single channel it doesn't take up space on the inside in the same way that Detective or Dreamcatcher do, so there may be room to squeeze a D.I. section in there.
I still need to get with the gentleman that's been testing the unit and work through his feedback to determine what needs to happen before it's ready to release, and I may still release a non-D.I. version as I know not everyone needs it and it would add to the cost of the pedal, but I will consider adding a D.I. section to it.
I am very well aware of what adding a transformer and an XLR out raises a ton of issues. The fact that it's even being considered is incredible. I also see why many will want the pedal without it. I would have been one of them, but in te direction that I'm heading with my signal chain, the SBVT as my DI would simplify so many things. I believe that to me it will be worth the extra cost.
What if you design the enclosure with a knock out and set up the transformer and XLR on a daughter board you can simply add upon request? Then, you can offer both!

Personally, the SVT and Furthermore would serve different purposes. I have one loop of drives with SVT (currently Dr Wattson), and another loop of modulation. Then both loops feed into delay/reverb/tremolo. Furthermore would be at the end with HP/LP and tone for everything along with DI/Headphones for at live/home.
So for me, I wouldn't have a use for the SVT with a DI, other than to future proof my rig in case I ever want to simplify, but could see why other people would want an SVT with a DI.

I assumed the pre-finished enclosures also came pre-drilled. Of course, you could also drill an extra hole yourself in that case. I was just overcomplicating for the sake of whiteboarding. Don't mind me.
