The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

I’ll be getting a more in Tuesday and wanted to ask when powering with a cioks7, if the 9v 650ma or the 12v 500ma setting has any behavior differences for anyone? Thanks.
I have a friend that swears he hears a difference, but I personally don't, and from a theoretical perspective you shouldn't. The input voltage goes exactly three places in most of my pedals:
  1. The tube heater
  2. The high-voltage power supply
  3. The LED(s)
The tube heater is designed to run at 12V, but I've successfully run tube heaters as low as 8V without any adverse effects, 9V is enough to get the tube heated up enough to amplify. Running the tube heater at 12V will get the tube hotter and consume more current, but if 9V is hot enough for the tube to work, running it hotter won't make it run different.

The high-voltage power supply is what we call a regulated power supply, which means it measures the voltage that it's putting out (feedback) to ensure that it's actually putting out as much as it's supposed to be. More, like all of my SMD pedals, is set to run around 235V or so (I think I read 237 on the last one I poked). The high voltage power supply will output 235V regardless of whether the input voltage is 5V or 20V. Higher input voltage does not mean higher tube plate voltage.

You may notice your LEDs light a little brighter at 12V.

Just ordered one !

Does it come with the power adaptater or do i need to buy one ? Any recommendation if so ?

Just shipped it ;)

It does not come with a power adapter, you will need to buy one. If you're looking for a supply for just the Detective by itself I typically recommend the TrueTone OneSpot. It provides plenty of juice for a good handful of tubes and is pretty reasonably priced.

If you're looking for a brick-style supply for a whole pedalboard, the main ones I tend to recommend are the Cioks DC7 (the supply I use on my personal board) and the TrueTone OneSpot Pro CS7.

There are plenty of others out there that would work, basically you're just looking for any supply that's center-negative (like typical pedal power supplies) and supplies at least 600mA or so of current.

What i don’t get about the bricks multi supply is that they’re usually quoted as 300 or 500 mA max per output.
Is this an average per output or a max not to go over ?

300-500mA is typical for a lot of the bricks out there. The Cioks DC7 will got up to 660mA per output at 9V, which is plenty for single- or double-tube pedals. The OneSpot Pro series are unique in that the labels on them aren't actually limits, they're just required by law to have them on there. With the OneSpot Pro as long as the sum of all your pedals together isn't exceeding the maximum output of the brick it doesn't matter how much you're pulling from each output.

Noob here... where can I find clips of the Finally, slampegg and UA? I am interested but not finding much online. With all the love they get I expected a lot more. I did check out the big thread on pres. After listening to those examples, I wonder how some pedals get their reps. So many quality tools

The store webpage should have them, look down towards the bottom.
 
Hi, Regarding the Finally.. Are the gain and master both driving the input of the Lightning Boy ? So in order to lower the DI output, i would also have to be lowering the input of the lightning boy....or might the gain be driving the input and the master handling the output ? thanks!

As an early and frequent adopter of sushibox pedals, I have a bunch from before the polarity fix that squeal in my chain. I am bad with a soldering iron. Can I ship them all to you, Senor Sushi, to perform the fix?

The Lightning Boy transformer is at the very end of the circuit as it's a D.I. transformer, so everything in the circuit affects it. The transformer does add some coloration, but it doesn't need to be pushed to the point if saturation to get it.
 
Got the Dreamcatcher and playing with it in my room for the past few days. Awesome tone and love having 2 circuits to switch between. Have them both running mostly clean with a little bit of grit and different EQ. Then I hit it with another drive pedal and it really comes to life. Loving this.

Any ballpark price estimate for the Venus X at this point?
It will easily be the most expensive pedal I have as it is the most complex pedal I have ever made. I still need to implement the speaker sim so I don't have final numbers, but based on current cost of the preamp itself with the D.I. and my peojections of the speaker sim parts, likely between $400 and $500.
