It sounds as though off the shelf it's a lot dirtier than I usually enjoy...which makes the hamster in my head ask whether switching 1 of the tubes to a lower gain option (12au7?)
would preserve the character but allow for more clean runway?? Sushi Box FX

I wonder of some of the richness & openness of the JCE comes from the added stages of tube juice and thinks that simply changing the tone stack on a UA would not have the same result. Might it be easier to change the gain profile on the JCE either with a pad or slight revision.

One could certainly lower the gain of JCE to get less dirt out of it if that's something you're looking for. JC Emerald only has one more gainstage than Underground Accelerator, the JCM uses that 4th triode stage as a buffer before the tonestack. So based on how similar Elementary (2 gainstages) sounds to Dr. Wattson (3 gainstages), it's very possible that taking the JC Emerald (3 gainstages) tonestack and putting it into the Underground Accelerator (2 gainstages) it just might have some neat results.

It's certainly a possibility. Swapping V1 would probably be the first choice, I would recommend going to a 12AT7. The earlier stages push the later stages, so if you're not pushing as hard on the later stages, the whole thing stays cleaner.

(1) I have an open outlet on my DC7…is that enough power? If so, what voltage works best?

(2) Planning to use on a small pb with tuner>>Effectrode PC-2A>>preamp (I have several preamps)…where in my chain do you think would work best? I’m all about a great tube-enhanced clean tone…

(1) Yes.

(2) Anywhere it sounds good! I use mine either at the beginning, end, or in the middle depending on which board I'm using (no matter the size of the pb).

Nope, 6 controls is my limit on that size enclosure, I couldn't do Gain/Volume/T/M/B and two switches, it would get too cluttered.

Also from a business standpoint I would be hesitant to do a variation on JC Emerald when JC Emerald has sold maybe 5-6 units in the almost 2 years it's been available, I would need evidence that there's more interest in the tone before releasing something similar. Dr. Wattson has always been one of my best sellers and there are over a hundred of them out in the world, that's what made Elementary seem like a good idea.

Count me in as well (JCE tonestack in a HW UA circuit)
Based on a few comments I've read here, the Deep switch just needs to be wired in .... no need to switch it off for bass. I'd let people with experience using the new JCE chime in on the usefulness of the bridge switch, again, on bass

Is there anything that has cut AND boost for bass/mid/treble? I like the sound of the UA, but sometimes want to boost the mids for a live setting, and end up having to use another pedal for that. It seems like the only options are the Venus X or the SVT2 when those come out.

Those are certainly the only options I have in the pipeline right now. I recently found an interesting 3-band EQ setup I've never tried before that is capable of boosting mids, but I've never tried it and it unfortunately isn't a drop-in replacement for anything I make, it would require a new board design.

I foresee myself running the SVT2 and UA in a future set up. Interested in that 3 band EQ as well.

Y'all have gotten me interested in a bit of tube rolling so also ordered a JJ12AT7 and a JJ 12AX7MG to go with that JJ 12AU7 and a set of Marshall Style gold top knobs that I hope fit.

I have several NOS and JAN tubes in my collective mess somewhere, GOK , maybe and old Mullard or RCA from my tests with a tube mic pre, from back when tubes were cheap.

Assuming they're the regular size ones that I have a couple of, they'll fit. You won't have a ton of space between them, but they'll go on for sure.

I agree with everything @bassbrad said about the JCE V2. It’s an *amazing* rock preamp, and I personally prefer it to the UA.

I do agree about the gain getting really heavy really fast, so I might try the 12AT7 in V1 also.

Other than that, I’d change nothing about it. I love it.

We will have to see what results we get from tube rolling. Our results could become a tube option for future orders.

@Sushi Box FX the only thing I can see changing, if and when there is a revision is to flip the whole layout by 90 degrees, that orientation would line up better with other common pedal sizes and take up less space on our ever crowding boards.
