The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Took a quick break from Venus X to play with my Euclid prototype, featuring a couple custom inductors that Lightning Boy put together for me.

The story with Euclid was basically I found a neat EQ design that I wanted to try out and needed a good platform to put it in, so Euclid is just a More with an interesting EQ. I think I may add another band to it though, I've gotten used to having separate high mids and low mids controls on Venus, now I want to put them in here too.

The plan was that if I liked this EQ enough it would make its way into Furthermore, and it looks like that may well be the case.

One day you’re just going to need to make a full amp. But keep it to 100 watts or less please.

this isn’t something for a pedalboard for me, it’s a standalone box, capable of everything needed onstage.
i suspect im not alone.

Definitely not alone! This is one I'm watching with a lot of anticipation!

With the Ampeg SGT just dropping, I'm trying to hold back on pressing the trigger as i think it does everything i need in a one box solution but without tubes (whyyyyyyyyyy Ampeg why!) but i reckon Nathan's Furthermore is going to be the bomb.

One box to for live, studio, practice, grab a cab and power amp and you don't need anything else!

We can start hassling the Chef with unsolicited ideas :hyper: once Namm and Venus X have dropped as he has got the release of his life coming up!

We're all routing for @Sushi Box FX you Chef!:thumbsup::bassist:

Sounds kinda weird to say, but maybe something like a selectable 10/1 watt amp would be magnificent for home practice!
My dive into the Sushi Box world (with some great advice from Nathan) inspired me to build my own tube amp and I absolutely love everything about it. It's 3ish watts, so it's right in the ballpark of where you're talking. With the appropriate transformer it sounds absolutely amazing for lower volume stuff. That said... generally speaking, the UA serves me just as well (better actually) in almost every other way. If I had to choose only one, I'd take the UA... but I don't have to so I'm not worried about it.

ha! My Dreamcatcher arrived yesterday, and my SGT-Di arrives tomorrow. I’m currently thinking barbershop -> Dreamcatcher -> SGT, but who knows what’ll happen when the furthermore drops.

Let me know how you like the Dreamcatcher! I was going back and forth with that one, but ended up getting the Detective because I've already got a Darkglass for my super crunch sound.

Just this past week, I've gone on a bit of a binge and bought a:
- Space Heater
- Detective
- Slampegg

Current wish list to try out is:
- Underground Accelerator
- More
- Finally (or potentially the successor 'Furthermore')
- JC Emerald

....but I need to let my wallet recover a little bit first.

I did that over 18 months so be sure to pace yourself.

Finally. came in today, a day earlier than expected which is nice... I'm floored by how great this sounds alone and in conjunction with my other pedals. UA > Finally is a bit of a balancing act but the sound is as good as it gets. Going to be doing some audio demos soon!

What difference do you find between the UA and UA HW?

Happy with my new UA. However, with EQ bypassed and Level dropped low, it's crisper in a way I prefer. Considering joining it to a Slampeg, Finally, or waiting for a Furthermore.

There is a very slight difference but it is not something you are likely to appreciate live with other instruments going even with in ear monitors. Most of my playing these days is for recording where I do appreciate difference in depth, especially for the highly processed sounds used on that board. My UA is part of the original batch before the tone bypass and when deciding on a second UA I decided to splurge on the HW version. IMHO the sound difference to my ear and economy is not necessary as the SMD versions are just fine.
My original UA gets moved around to whch ever set up I might use on a gig or jam or for experimentsing with other pedals and is the base line I use for comparison to other preamps.

The change in volume is due to the passive TMB tone stack in the UA, as well as any other passive tone stack, the bypass should be crisper. This is a driving reason for the Venus X to have an active tone circuit to get that added clarity in the high end that more recent designs offer.
