Anyone have any insight on the More versus Underground Accelerator?

I’m currently underutilizing the Dreamcatcher. It’s always on and I use the blue channel 90% of the time, with bass/mid/treble at 0/10/0. I only use the red (with a 12au7) with my organ for some Jon Lord / Wolfmother kinda stuff, but I can get that OD elsewhere in my chain. Thinking about keeping my chain (other stuff > barbershop b > sushi > alpha/omicron > qstrip), but maybe switching out the Dreamcatcher for a UA or More. Any advice?

I use the UA and MORE in the same chain and at this point, it would be very uncomfortable if I was forced to choose one over the other.

Given the content of your post, I think if you did the same, you would be very pleased.

You can’t really compare the two. You can get a good growly breakup with a UA (hw preferably) but the more is has no tone shaping.

UA is a full pre-amp with EQ that can do some drive. A lot of utility in it.
More is... more of a tube gain +/- knob than a pre-amp or compressor.

That said, can anybody recommend replacements for the More's JJs (at7 and au7) to enhance spacial and add warmth character? I find JJs a bit mid-grindy and glassy.

Adding to my previous post:

I concur with other folks who have noted that the UA and MORE are very different propositions insofar as what they offer. In my case, both devices are always-on, with the UA providing character/personality and the MORE offering heft/warmth/presence. I adore both of these devices.

I guess my thinking was that since I currently run the Dreamcatcher at 0-10-0, it’s essentially flat, so I’m not sure how much color it’s adding beyond just tube goodness. So I was contemplating how much difference there is between a More and a flat Underground Accelerator. If that makes any sense. I think my sushi goal is always-on warmth, depth(?), fullness, and clarity at the moment, not necessarily breakup or grit.

Swapping out the Dreamcatcher for a More or a HW UA would also free up a slot on my board for another pedal, like a phaser or chorus, which is appealing to me (and my GAS).

A UA should be almost identical to the Dreamcatchers Blue channel. So if you’re satisfied with the tone you get now, a UA will be the same and free up a spot on your board.

The More doesn’t really do any of the things a UA does.

If you are running flat with little colour/eq going on then i would suggest a More.

"I think my sushi goal is always-on warmth, depth(?), fullness, and clarity at the moment, not necessarily breakup or grit" --- This basically describes More to me.. though i am biased being a huge fan of More.

@CoachEvan I'd say with a UA, you *can* get it to sound nice and toob clean (especially if you start swapping out the 12AX7 for something with a lower gain stage). But I don't think that's what it excels at; for me, the "secret sauce" is to set it (at least) on the edge of breakup, so when playing soft, or normally, it's thick/saturated but still clean, and then let any harder right-hand technique push the UA into slight overdrive. And then a couple gain pedals in front of the Sushi, to push it harder as things call for.

I agree with @_Tay_ that a More is probably the better weapon of choice for you, based on the things you are describing.

Or even a Finally, since it's the UA without any EQ section. Plus it's got that beauty XLR Out on it, as well. I love the UA, but maybe it's not your ideal solution. And that's totally cool!

If your priority is warmth/depth over grit, then by all means go with the MORE.

@Sushi Box FX
Will this become reality?

My UA sounds really mid scooped, is that normal?
Also, there is a volume drop when engaged, I have to turn the master all the way up and the gain up pretty high to get unity level, b ut with the gain up so high it gets into OD territory, which I dont want all the time. Anyone else experience this?

I put a 12au7 in my UA and it really cooled it down, best thing I did. I can get good gain and tube warmth without OD. The level does drop when you engage the EQ, it’s normal. When the Mid is all the way up, it’s “flat” so if it’s not there you’re getting a mid cut. It’s the typical passive Fender tone stack

That doesn't sound like a typical performance to me. I use a fraction of the actual capacity with my UA and it very powerful with plenty of headroom prior to break-up. It is hand wound, but all the same.
