There is probably a small trim pot on the board that is accessible if you take the back cover off. If it's turned down really low, the pedal would act like you describe.

There is probably a small trim pot on the board that is accessible if you take the back cover off. If it's turned down really low, the pedal would act like you describe.
I dunno as far as volume drop goes, but flat on the UA is 0, 10, 0 so if you're boosting lows or highs at all, even with mids at 10, you're scooping. That is the nature of the passive Fender tone stack. I boost mids elsewhere in my chain (usually on my head) to compensate.

Yes I did. I also had a chance to play through this tonight.
Had the SBVT going through the Becos to the IR loader out to a Broughton HPF to the finally. SOOOOOO GOOOOOOD!!! This one is incredible sounding with my Fender AV 58 P bass. The sound made me proud. lol
JJ is a solid choice for price and performance unless you wanna go NOS (NEW OLD STOCK)

How does the SBVT compare to the SV Pre? Does it get grittier than the SV Pre?
I tried to get the SBVT II to sound as close as possible to my SV-Pre, the funny thing is I had to hit the bright switch on the SV-Pre to do it. The SBVT II has a lot of treble on tap, and I might be in the minority, but I really like that.
As far as grittier, yes the SBVT II gets there easier than the SV-Pre and can get far more break up.
With the settings I was using I had it set to smooth and clean, until I dug in, that’s where I found the beauty of the SBVT II. It handles dynamic playing very well.
Experimenting with tubes (or "tube rolling" as it's called) is interesting and really opens up tone options.
The 12AU7 has the lowest amount of gain factor at (19) of the 12A*7 family with the 12AX7 at (100) being the highest and the 12AT7 at (60) being somewhere in the middle of the two.
When purchasing tubes, I use the Tube Depot (TD), they have an excellent site and customer service.
JJ is the stock tube brand that Sushi Box uses. In my UA, I'm using a JJ ECC802S with matched triodes and tested for low noise and microphonics which adds $6.00 to the price. It is a ruggedized version of the standard ECC802.

Personally, I want tube warmth, harmonics and tone without overdrive distortion and the 12AU7 does it for me in that regard. If you push the UA to the absolute max you can get some overdrive out of the AU7 but you have plenty of clean until you get there.
I also like the new Mullard 12AU7, it's getting rave reviews for its low noise and excellent construction.
It sounds wonderful in my tube compressor and would be a fine choice for the UA too.

The cost of new tubes is still reasonable and you can buy different ones and experiment to find your preference.
I also put a 12AU7's in my finally direct box and Slampegg Bee and it makes both of them sound incredible. I can push the tubes and get a nice fat and clean tone with no noise, hum or hiss.

Thanks for the info. I went for a jj AT7 after reading and listening to a YouTube comparison with a SH. Seems like a middle ground.

Does anyone know if the positions of the effect selector knob on the older Robot Butterfly are the same as those on glass butterfly (ie are the different FX at the same corresponding positions around the clock)? I cannot find a diagram.

The tricky thing there is that Robot Butterfly didn't have a "stock" set of effects, they were customizable by each customer when the order was placed. Admittedly not a super sustainable way to do things in the long run.

How does having 2 tubes in the More create a "special sauce" as opposed to the gain/output of the SH ?

Hard to put it in words. Space Heater has multiple gainstages so it can get some dirt with the gain cranked. More is a single gainstage into a buffer stage so it will only run clean, it will never distort. The real magic in More is from the parallel stages, they work to reduce noise and give a hard to describe "fatness" to the sound.
Slampegg uses a James tonestack.

I use a Space Heater and More always on and would add that while the More produces this sweet fatness, the Space Heater (with some nice amount of gain to give some hair) makes my tone more '3D like' if that makes sense? or adds Depth.. I have a hard time describing sounds sometimes
I once blurted that Slampegg is Baxandall. James and Baxandall are very similar, only not.
IMO both are superior to the other option.
