The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

So I take it that only the items marked “on sale” are on sale?
I decided the sale will go live at midnight Central time April 1 and will apply to all in-stock pedals. The sale will end April 2 at midnight for everything except Bassdude, I'll leave that one on sale until it sells out, I could use the shelf space.

The amount of the discount will vary from unit to unit, but will be 10% minimum.

EDIT: as I was setting up the sale on the website I realized I don't have very many models in stock. I spent a lot of time getting the Bassdudes and Nobeliums built up and it took time away from my usual lineup. I have a handful of backorders already so those will get priority, but once those are filled I will work to get stock back up for everything.

Looks like there's going to be a Grand Slampegg v0.3, v0.2 isn't as cool as I wanted it to be. I had an idea to combine one of the coolest things about More (parallel gainstages) with some of the tonal aspects of Slampegg (tonestack, some of the gainstage component values) and use a 6SL7 to do it.

The good:
  • IT SOUNDS INCREDIBLE. The tone is absolutely amazing. Smooth yet punchy, very responsive and dynamic.
  • The tonestack makes it really flexible, it's like having a richer low end on a More but still being able to dial in some bite on the high end
  • The combination of the rich low end and the switchable HPF is super useful, being able to get a punchy low end without being too much in the ultra-low frequencies
The bad:
  • It's quiet. With the volume fully cranked and tonestack set flat the 1/4" output is only a couple dB above unity (haven't tried the XLR yet, but I expect it to be just a notch above a passive D.I. in volume). The baxandall/james tonestack is inherently lossy, I just never realized how lossy until I ran this with no makeup gain on the output.
That's it. It sounds really good (like REALLY good), but it's not loud enough. It has a lot of potential, but it needs some work.

Ah is that why the More sounds so good, the parallel stages? Makes sense to me now if it's getting two slightly different characteristics and combining them.

I'm very excited by the prospect of the Grand Slampegg, I think it'll be worth all the effort.

Bro I told you about using 2 6SL7s already! You need em, I was right! :D

Nathan, what is the control set for Grand Slampegg v0.3? Similar to the current Slampegg with the added toggle for the LPF?

Rotate the enclosure 90 degrees and add a 12AU7 (1/2 for an output gain stage, 1/2 for a buffer into the parallel 6SL7 gain stages)? Or would that push you to a bigger enclosure?

@Sushi Box FX what numbers are still available?

v0.3 hasn't been designed yet, I just built up v0.2 yesterday. V0.2 controls are Volume, Bass, Treble, 1/4" output select, and HPF.

Rotating 90 degrees is not an option, the 6SL7 would no longer fit. At this point nothing additional will fit in this enclosure unless I settle for a FET boost stage. I was trying to keep it as small as possible (like I do everything), and the next size up would be the Dreamcatcher/Detective size.

You can see the mess of solder flux at the bottom where components were swapped out after cleaning in an attempt to raise the output level.

If it sounds great as is, I'd personally like it to remain the current size and a transparent, non-tube solution for the volume boost is used. Excited about the progress being made!

Yeah I've been having a talk this morning with my main technical consultant/best friend and that's the way I'm leaning. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the sound of it and want to change it as little as possible. I'm going to see if I have room to add another toggle switch in there so I can have an optional boost (leaning toward a high-voltage FET option) for when you need a hotter output, or you can keep it off if just-over-unity is fine for your purpose.

This is another one I'm trying not to rush, but with how good it sounds already I feel like it wouldn't take much more work to get it ready for a finalized releasable product. I'm still working Furthermore and hope to have a new intermediate prototype incorporating the variable HPF with the preamp. I still need to play with the headphone amp/line in, but I'm optimistic about getting Furthermore completed this year.
