The TalkBass String Comparison Sound Clip Thread!

Recently gave DR’s a whirl and not regretting it at all.
I have the Pure Blues on my Jazz with JV52 pups and Warwick $$. I love the feel and sound. The Sunbeams have permanently made a home on my P Bass w/GEEZERS. Nice throaty growl and easy playing flexibility from both strings. A little warmer and fatter with the Pure Blues.

Hey guys, although they've stopped making them, here's a comparison of rotosound swing 66 steel against la bella stainlesa steels.
Please note that I've bought a custom set of rotos, 45 65 80 100

Also added to the playlist of all string comparisons if you want to have a look

Thanks.
Yup, I buy them on aliexpress. A 6 string set only costs about 14 bucks, but you have to wait about 3 weeks for them to ship over from China. Really cool strings though, I'm still loving mine.

Are they available in multi scale , 37" Dingwall ? I will have to check.

Hey Guys,
I picked up a set of GHS Progressives and put them on my 62 Jazz. I've wanted to try these out for the longest time and i've got to say the feel is nice but they really aren't what I'm looking for unfortunately. :( Too bad because they weren't cheap either. In regards to feel, to me they fall somewhere between a nickel and stainless steel round wound. More towards the nickel as they are quite smooth. But super high tension. People complain about Rotosounds and these are definitely tighter. Just my opinion of course. I'm not knocking GHS in any way. But they aren't as bright and twangy as I hoped. I made a short clip with Garageband. I finally figured out how to add a drum track. Please excuse the playing. Signal chain is my 62 Jazz into my old trusted Line 6 Bass Pod XT on the Eden Traveler amp and matching Eden 4x10 cab. No compression or other stuff added.
Here you go...
Best wishes to all,
Brent

Sounds pretty bright to me. I'm with you on the stiffness though, I remember those strings giving me cramps because I had to press them down so hard.

Wow! Listening to that was painful.:rollno: I removed the clip. My timing was sooo off. :(
I had just removed a set of "still fresh" DR Hi Beams from my Jazz which seemed considerably brighter to my ear.

My current string of choice for the last many years have been Daddario XLs. I am looking to try other strings. I am looking for something that gives me very strong low mids. I read somewhere someone expressing that they dislike low mids but in my book its the most important frequency because low mids is what makes the fundamental note project. Anyway with that said. Here is an example of what I am referring too.
He is using GHS Boomers so I am very curious to give them a try as well as Ziko's, DR's and Dunlops. Thanks for all your post. They have been helpful.
