The TB "Essential" Pedalboard?

TB Essential, Pedaltrain Nano Edition:

Cheating? For me, the TurboTuner is an absolute *must* and the lates -300 series with the relay switching is worth buying even if you have the -200 series because the switching is silent. My -200 would pop from time to time. Next, I'll jump to the end. The SansAmp is my get out of jail card. If my HX dies, I can just unplug the cable going into the BDDI and plug directly into it. Worst case, they'll switch on phantom power or I'll grab a 9V battery to get through the gig.

Now, the TB Essentials patch - (work in progress)
1) Mic Pre just to give some warmth / saturation
2) Minotaur OD, footswitched
3) LA2A compressor, always on
4) Bass Octaver
5) Chorus
6) HPF set at 34Hz by default, tweak at the gig for optimal setting If there's any boom to tame.

I use the BDDI as channel switching if I plug into an amp and as an amp if I go direct. Why not just use the modeling on the HX Stomp? I like to have knobs immediately available for amp tone and I'm basically using the HX Stomp as a highly upgraded M9. There are plenty other patches on the HX Stomp that I can use and I can even use this rig for acoustic or guitar. It's more compact that my Metro 24-based pedalboard as well. The other pedalboard, I'll post pics when I get the HPF and cabling finished, is more of a studio / bigger gig where you don't care about more gear type of pedalboard. No digital, just optimum effects.

How is that Minotaur OD on bass? Did you eq it or are you using it "stock"?

Actually, still in the twerking stage and I'm now using Teemah! with a lowpass loop around 120Hz to keep the bottom full. I didn't realize that you can switch the loops with the foot switch. I also moved the HPF to after octave / before chorus and the mic preamp to the very end where I can use its HPF/LPF on the final output. I'm closing in on a final (well final for maybe 48 hours) patch. When I'm happy, I'll post the preset if anyone is interested. Voicing with a passive P bass.

Latest incarnation, I know I'm changing things up a bit.

Compressor -> Tuner -> Noble DI -> HPF on the 1/4"

The reason for the HPF after the DI is that I want to send a clean signal to the PA and they can do whatever HPF makes sense there. I'll HPF to kill any boom on my amp / monitor. In a bar with just an amp, it's the same thing effectively as before the amp. Has to put the tuner and HPF sideway so they both would fit on the Nano.

Your Noble has an XLR DI. I do not know, but suspect that the Noble isn't adding any LF artifacts that you'd need to worry about - especially if the HPF was in front of it.

What are you using for a DI after the HPF? You can eliminate that additional set of connections from your chain of you route the filter first.

Yes, I’m aware of the XLR on the Noble. The 1/4” output, if used, would go to an amp or maybe a powered speaker on stage. I can HPF my feed and the sound person can HPF wherever makes sense for them.

I encourage everyone to consider parallel processing on the pedalboard. Then you can blend and mix clean and dirty signals together.

This is how I do it.

I’ve never been able to split my signal and have it sound good to my ears. I’ve tried three different devices for this, two of which get rave reviews here, but I just don’t like the result. I know some love it, but either I haven’t mastered it or it’s not for me.

I run my Boss GT-10b straight to the board, no amp on most of my gigs now. Most of my patches are just different compressors, different amp and cabinet sims and different EQ settings for flavor. I guess I basically have to say a tuner, compressor, EQ and a DI.I could probably go without the amp/cabinet sim.

While I’m here, I’d just like to know if you people that are praising the HPF fad are the same people that have always complained about low end loss on dirt box’s?

Finally was able to use the "Essential" at a gig and I'm a firm believer in the HPF. Was able to get a controlled B string with no boom. Since there was no boom, the bass fit in the mix much better. "Riding" the B string didn't even seem like riding the B string, and yeah, I only did it on one song where it was tasteful. Really, really happy with my tone last night. Rig was Alien Audio -> Cali 76 -> Noble DI -> any hpf -> Trickfish 1K -> Mesa Subway 15. Man, I wish I had this rig back when I was starting out.

Well, I think the terms of this topic is a bit silly, what's essential would be widely different from person to person depending on what was needed to play the kind of music they play, and looking past that fact in the end nothing but a bass plugged directly into an an amp using an instrument cable would strictly speaking really be essential, so sorry, but I'll pass on taking part in this game as I have a hard time seeing the actual point.

For me personally I'd say the 5 pedals I leave on all the time would be essential, but then again I wouldn't really feel satisfied with the result without the 6 others that I actually feel are essential for some of the stuff I play, cornered and threatened on my life I could theoretically do with just 1 always on pedal, but I don't think the result of that would really be worthwhile listening to for anyone.
