I find this thead entertaining. It also provides me with one more reason why I like playing church gigs

Drink Sat evening if you want,, but with a 6AM call time on Sunday (4:45 wake up time), you’ll pay for it.

WOW!
Whole lotta judgement and assumption goin on up in here.
I don’t drink because my life sucks when i do, but damn folks. Once in a blue moon someone gets a bit crazy and all of a sudden the morals proctors dog pile? It was intended to be humourous, at least that’s the way i read it, so how about we try to lighten the heck up. :D

The pinnacle is when he walks into the accommodation I'm sharing with one of the guitarists with a laptop, connects it to the room bluetooth sound system, and starts playing new tracks.

At this point my vision is going red and random images of axes and ice picks are appearing in front of me... I had to disappear into another room and find my inner quiet and happy place with my head under a pillow until silence returned.

...this sounds like your own music made you have to retreat to another room lol.

I stick to around 6 drinks before playing, but I can do 15 pints and go to work the next day. That's also not before every show, but if we're playing a bar I like to buy a few drinks. I've gotten flak from band leaders for buying people pints and giving them our business cards, but people seem to respond well to that.

I hope you don't drive yourself home after the gig

Dude, it was a one-off night of excess after the gig (no-one drinks before playing). We are all older musicians, not kids on the road to ruin. Why not step down off that high horse and have a beer?

Well I had relatives who destroyed their lives with alcohol so I look at it a little differently, and I have a friend who's oldest daughter has spent the last several years going to doctors repairing damage inflicted by a drunk driver.

I don’t drink like I used to but I’ll have a beer or two in the course of an evening gig. I’m not judging and I know that’s not what the OP did, and I agree that the teetotaler was a dick. But I do believe that getting sloppy drunk on the bars tab while working is uncool. Working being the operative word here. If it’s a freebie then you make the call.

I'm not a teetotaller, but for the past few years, I won't have more than a two drinks maybe once a week. I used to drink a fair amount, but I also had a very high tolerance (I can only think of a few times that anyone's ever seen me very drunk). I'm also a total night owl.

I gotta say being around drunk people when you're sober can be as miserable as having someone get you out of bed in the morning. A one-off with a bunch of old guys is no big deal, and kind of funny, but so is the cold wake-up, as much as I can't relate to anyone voluntarily waking up in the morning.
