My wife's '17 Wrangler Unlimited will be paid off in less than 3 years, and I've been contemplating what to do next. She really likes her Jeep so the next vehicle purchase should go the way of phone upgrades - where she gets the latest and greatest and I get her hand-me-down.
I'm driving a 2000 Wrangler with 244k on it. Looks and drives like it only has 80k though - it's had caring owners, and I'm hoping it goes the distance until the other one is paid off. The only negative is that it drinks gas like a kid drinking a Slurpee on a hot Florida day, and I'll be returning to the office soon after working from home for four years. That's a significant financial hit, considering I'll be traveling almost another 60 miles a day.
An electric car seems attractive now but factoring in a payment along with the increased insurance costs would be far more expensive than the fuel to feed my Jeep. Once the other one is paid off it will be less of an impact - but I may still want to keep the older Jeep as it's so much fun. Maybe with antique tags the insurance might go down.
Just thinking out loud at this point, but I'm leaning more towards something electric as a better way to commute around town.
