The Testosterone Toy Thread!

0711mechpic1_375x540.png

This mech was on eBay a couple of years ago, made by two guys in Alaska I believe. Just when you think it isn't manly enough, wait 'til you try out the flamethrower on it's arm!

Big block what? They don't look like Chevy heads.

429/460 Ford. Small vs big block doesn't apply as well with Fords but it seemed a simpler way to get the idea across. Sadly, I borrowed the pic from the website of the guy that ported my heads - mine, are still sitting in the garage waiting for me to have enough free time to actually do something with them.

I see from your sig you've got a spry little ride in that Camaro. What motorvates it?

Banks sidewinder pickup... the worlds fastest pickup - 222mph, 750hp, 26 MPG and street legal!

GET THAT CHEVY COBALT THE HECK OUTTA MY THREAD! I see high school cheerleaders driving those things with huge shopping-cart scratches in them! NOT MANLY!

But the Dodge Challenger, the General Lee, the Thrust SSC, the Liebherr T 282B, and the Hemi Barbecue can all stay.

Jeez, sorry my car isn't a classic muscle car! :spit:

I worked hard for what i have and it really grinds my gears to get that disrespect. does the fact that its supercharged with 270 hp make a difference to you? probably not. But the fact that i can womp alot of cars with way larger engines than mine and even lay the smack down on ricers while still getting 30+ MPG highway makes me happy.

477 cubes of BB Chevy.
All throttle, no bottle. ;)

What are you putting together?

Right now probably just a 460 in a 1961 Unibody PU. Sort of like this but street driven and about 2/3 the hp. I've got a Victor 460 manifold that was ported at the same time as the heads and an adapter to run a glide that I'm tempted to use if I can keep the weight down. The unibodies are pretty light, but I think I'm still looking at around 3500-3600 pounds with my butt in the seat.

I've got a '70 Torino Cobra 429 4spd car that would be an easy swap but the hood won't clear with the Victor and I don't really want to run the risk of piling that up anyway. The head porter says 550 hp with the smallish hydraulic cam I've got and he's been conservative in his estimates with others so I'm hoping I can see that number even if I manage to booger up the tune a bit. There are an abundance of stroker kits for the 429/460 Ford motors now. Back when I was in highschool it was so much cheaper to run Chevrolet mainly because the heads were pretty good right from the factory and everyone and their cousin had one so the aftermarket stuff was reasonably inexpensive. It's kind of like that now with Ford stroker stuff. You still have to pony up for heads because the stock stuff has issues but the rotating assemblies are dirt cheap and the block doesn't require any special mods. 545 cubes is really pretty easy.

Big cube saws have manly written all over them and even though the saw in the first post one-upped this already I'll incude a pic anyway. One of these days I'll figure out how to get the images and the text lined up right.

I think you'd be better off with a three speed auto for the street, especially if you're going to be over 3000 pounds. The Camaro weighs in at a portly 3600 pounds with me in it, and I'm running a TH400. I know I could get some weight out of the car, but I'm street driving it and kinda like the full interior, roll up windows, lights and wipers etc.....

Stroker kits are a bargain these days. So are complete crate engines. No need to raid junkyards for rebuldable engines anymore (unless you're doing something odd like a 500 cube Caddy engine), there are so many sources for GM & Ford engines. Add a couple more bucks and and they turn into big inch engines. If I didn't already have a nice forged GM crank when we screwed the 477 together, I could have very easily popped for a 4.250" stroker crank and had 496 cubes. Couple that crank with a 4.500" Bowtie block and you're at 540 inches.

Glad to see another gearhead here at TB. :hyper:

I'll see your big saw and raise you to a V8 powered chainsaw.
